I found a source that indicates 3212 GTX's were built. Try Yearone for engine ID listings.

Trim levels and cosmetics plus the base engine.

Both models had the same body based on the Belvedere. Outward differences were decals and badging and maybe a different hood. Some (depending on the year) were sold with "decal delete" option to hide their heritage from the unsuspecting.

Here is a good link for GTX history.

Here is one for Satellite history.

We have all done it.................................let a good one go because we wanted better/different, needed the money or just plain lost interest. I still lament the '68 Super Bee that I ordered new. Sold it 13K miles later because the $97.90 a month was above my comfort level and I had a company car anyway.

Thanks for the help guys..... Incedently, the one I'm considering is the exact same color combination (w/ vinyl top) as the one in the pic for 71.

I wasn't questioning your info, Dick. Just a little tounge in cheek referring to the ridiculous GTX clone made by Barry White that someone is trying to sell for over 100k now.

It seems that there are no absolutes in production figures for this car and many others. For every source of "exact numbers" quoted, there is another source that is brought forth with different numbers.

I suppose we could add up all the "absolute" numbers and then divide by the number of sources quoted. Then, we would have a number that was as reliable as any of the sources.

Yes, I know. As time goes on and more originals are rusted away, that number is going to be questionable.

It seems to me that the number built is not as significant as the number remaining original.

He took a 71 RR and a 71 Satellite, parted out the RR to fix the Sat, and sold it as a GTX.

Barry White took an old Satellite and an old Road Runner and cut them up to make a GTX clone. Both the Saty and the Runner could have been salvaged, but Barry thought he could make a ton of money with a GTX clone. He did make a decent LOOKING car, but it was way overpriced and wasn't even 100% Mopar.

Under the listing of Hemi, you have 11 Manual and 19 auto for a total of 32. Is this new math? When I add 11 + 19, I get 30.

They are allowing for the two that Barry will build from the carcasses of 14 other cars.

Those Hemi's are still in crates.
