"The PT Cruiser launches off the line with little wheelspin, even with the clutch dropped at 3000 rpm. Around the skidpad, there is noticeable body roll because of the tallness of the car. Through the slalom, the PT Cruiser is nimble, but the quick steering ratio almost makes it feel darty." DARTY? What's this? Is it a hummingbird or a 1964 Dodge Dart?
R&T goes on to compare the Cruiser's performance to Mercedes-Benz ML320, Lexus RX 300, and VW V-6 Passat Wagon. Actually, the 5-speed PT beats the Passat's V-6 automatic by .1 sec. in 0 to 60.
R&T also gives us another mpg: 20 city and an admirable 26 highway.
Overall the road test sounds good, R&T concludes with, "The PT Cruiser gets a thumbs-up." Which is what I give this posting.
If you plan to pick up Road & Track, look for a silver Mugen-Honda SS2200 "Wild Thing" and a BMW Z8 on the cover. The 6-page story starts on 78.
