I have a '95 Dodge Intrepid ES, with a 500w Jensen amp in the trunk hooked up to dual 12" JBL subs in a Q-Logics bandpass enclosure. Just this week I bridged the subs and ran a 10-gauge hot to the battery...now when I have in a bass cd, the headlights will dim when the subs are really goin. So, is the alternator not putting out enough juice to compensate, or is my battery going...any ideas?

#1-Dump the Jensen amp, seriously they are pathetic garbage!!

#2-Upgrade your alternator, get it rewound at your local motor alternator shop and it will cost half as much as a new one..

Go out and buy a power cap, 1 farad should do the trick, it will probably cost you about $100. But I agree with 78 Red, get rid of that Jensen junk.

I'll look into your suggestions, as for the Jensen "Crap", all I have ever used is Jensen, and any difference I hear or feel with say, MTX Blue Thunder or some other overpriced hunk of metal, is negligible, and more importantly, not worth the extra cost *to me*. A lot of people have been telling me along the same lines to get rid of the pathetic garbage I drive, otherwise known as a Dodge... think I should listen to them too?

I think the cap is a good idea, but before you spend $100.00 you should check your ground wire to be certain it is connected correctly. It should be the same size or larger than the power wire,18" or less long, (you might want to try 8 gauge instead of 10),and it should be bolted to a good clean (no paint)metal surface.
Try not to use a factory bolt either some of them are not good grounds, but can look like a good spot.

In all my audio setup's I've used an Optima deep cycle to power the whole sound system and hook it up to the alternator for charging. never had any problems with this setup.
