My '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee has the Infinity system in it. I spoke to my not so local stereo guys and they said it was pretty easy. The amp for my system is under the drivers side rear seat. My mechanic friend works at the Dodge dealer and said that he could hook me up with a schematic of the amp system and be able to go from there. I will try to let you know how this all turns out. I have a Rockford amp and bass tube to add along with RC 61 or 65, I forget the number, Boston Accoustics speakers for the rear.

YES. ITS POSSIBLE TO ADD SUBS TO YOUR TRUCK. YOU DO HAVE TO CHANGE THE STOCK AMP FOR THE BEST RESULTS. I DID THIS IN MY 98 5.9 JEEP AND MY SUPERCHARGED V-10. GOOD LUCK.......

Actually, all you really need to do is buy a line converter from Radio Shack for about 20.00 Simply splicr it in to the wires that are going into the rear speakers. The converter converts it to a low level (RCA) output. Connect the RCA wires to the converter and the other end to the amp. This way you can continue using the factory amp for the rears with no problems. Make sure when you adjust the converter you dont gain it up to high though, it can cause unwanted distortion. Also make sure the converter is an un-powered converter. This is the best and least expensive way of doing this. Dont let anyone tell you diffferently, I work at an audio shop here in Savannah. You can easily add subs to your durango. I would definitely suggest adding a separate amp though. Just get a small-medium 2 channel amp and 1-2 subs. Use a line converter to connect the amp to your stock head unit. JL Audio makes a great custom sub enclosure for Durangos. It simply replaces the center cushion of the rear seat(middle seat if you have the 3 row seating). It holds either a 10" or a 12" sub(I'm not sure which).

Hi, I'm 16 and I've gotta 98 SS/T and my brother gave me an old cheap ass 250 watt amp and two 8" not powered bazookas, they acually are much better than I thought they would be I also have hopes of adding one of those new square 10" Kickers, anyway, most amps these days have a line level input along with a pre-amp input, there is a switch to pick which on you want to use all you have to do is get the wires from you back speakers, or just splice into them and run two speaker wires into the line level inputs on you aftermarket amp. Believe me it works I live in a small town and I've hooked up a lot of stereos for other people.

To make your install as simple as possible MTX makes an amplified 10" sub box(amp, sub,& line converter included all in one box) that fits in your rear storage compartment in the floor.
Otherwise a amp with a line converter in it,or an external line converter are both good ways to go. |
