Rice Amp Question

I have 2 JBL subs each is 250rms and 1000w max. How many watts does my amp need to be? 500w? 600w?

JBL overrates the actually power rating of the sub, i would just get a fosgate 250 or 300 and that will do the job just fine. I install carstereo at bestbuy so i have a pretty good product knowledge and have seen the small 250 fosgates push tons of power. Good luck

If what IndyRamDriver says is true (JBL over rates their subs) then buy an amp with a rating of 200 to 225 RMS wattage per channel IF you are hooking the subs up in stereo.

Important:

Be absolutely sure your chosen amp can handle the load you are putting on it. Match the impedance (ohms) of the speakers with the amp you choose to use. I am assuming your speakers are either 4-ohms or 8-ohms apiece.

If you plan on bridging your amp then you will need one amp that can put out 400 to 450 RMS watts to 1-channel at either 2 ohms (two - 4-ohm speakers in parallel) OR 4 ohms (two 8-ohm speakers in parallel)

If you have any questions, ask before making any costly mistakes.

Good Luck

Default i farad cap

the cap is a good idea but depending on how much amprage ur gonna use u can possibly toy with the idea of running a second battery and also make sure u use the proper gauge wire and quality .....watch out price doesnt always mean quality

Default JBL Subwoofers, Power Ratings

Don't know where U are getting your information...

We have been running a JBL 12 GT Pro Sub with a 1200W amp for over a year and no problems. Subs are usually blown due to "clipping distortion" not power, and this usually happens when using a lower powered amp and overdriving it. Clipping distortion will destroy any speaker regardless of brand or cost..

pioneer dehp940
california profile 400 watt 4 channel amp
rockford seperates up front (6.5, tweeter i forget the size of)
pioneer 3 ways in the rear (i forget what size)
mtx thunderform sub (2 10"s)
6 disc pioneer cd changer
pioneer xm radio tuner module.

i also read about a ferad cap the was designed like an amp, to act like 500 1 farad capacitors. i forget the name of it though. looked neat. saves on having to but more than one battery, i think
