Default what's ur Opinion on buying Brand name stereo equipment from walmart???

hello
I am going to eventally buy a cd player and put it in my truck, Pioneer, model 34, like $170 at walmart, and $180 in crutchfield

My dad doesnt think cd players and other stereo equipment (name brand, sony, pioneer, jvc) from walmart are as good, as what u buy elsewhere such as cruthfield, even if it's the same 2 players with the same specs and model numbers, say like the pioneer-model34

whats everyone else think????

as long as its not refurbished and i dont think it is its the same thing. no matter if you pay the $400 at the stereo places or the $170 at a walmart.

shouldnt be a problem
Walmart and places like that usually have the lowest of the line of the brand names
other than that it is the same stuff
if the brand-model-year ect are the same then go with the less expensive
it usually is quicker and easier to get warenty out of a place you can walk into vs a place you have to ship back

very true!! they have outrageous rates! i bought an amp there once, they said to me "come back tomorrow, and we'll put it in for you." when i asked why they couldn't just give me the amp so i could do it myself, the told me "because we won't make any money that way. bring your car in, and we'll do it."

they wouldn't give it to me, even after i talked to the manager, the manager said no... so i called the BBB... hopefully thats just here though...

i have a Pioneer (can't remember model) that my parents got from wal-mart (after the BBB), and it's just like others. it was new, and it works great!

another piece of advice....keep the receipt, and make sure you can return it if it doesn't work. get the warrenty in case as well, and save EVERYTHING! receipt, box, manuals, etc....

good luck!

One thing I have learned you want to go high name brand. But only if you are interested in subs and making your vehicle sound good. They are a lot better qaulity and have better warenty. And if you talk to the car audio shop sometime you can get them to install things for free. And if you spend big the first time you can probally get a sponsership.

Default hmmmmm

well i agree, i think it is the same stuff

but there is one thing that makes me wonder???

the illumination of the pioneer head units controls (not the display) are a different color, at walmart they are a redish color, everywhere else i've looked, (pioneers site, crutchfield) the controls are green, i like the red better but that seems to make me wonder y their the only ones i've seen like this??anyone else notice this

okay, even though walmart carries brands like sony and pioneer, i know for a fact they are special walmart models.. try looking some of those models up on pioneerelectronics.com.. like the deh-p44 or deh-14 cd players or the gm-x262 amp or whatever. NONE of these models even exist on pioneer's own site! because they're cheap crap made for walmart! but they want you to think it's the same quality because the name is the same. and
DO NOT BUY FROM CRUTCHFIELD, AGHHHH!!! THEY RIP YOU OFF!!!! If one more person buys from crotchfield i'm going to douse my head in gasoline. buy from eBay and you won't regret it. i got a pioneer deh-p3300 cd player best buy store display for $80, mint condition. trim ring, mounting sleeve, wiring, everything. it still had the best buy price tag on it.. $199.99. a pioneer gm-x942 600w amp, whom the owner purchased at best buy for $249.99, for $90. two 10" pioneer subs for $30. just remember to look at the seller's feedback rating and ask him questions about the item. if it doesn't look right, don't bid. and wait for another just like it. the same items come and go all the time. and if for some obnoxious reason you don't like eBay, buy from etronics.com, please. their prices are wholesale and put crotchfield, best buy, circuit city, blah blah they all suck to utter shame. so ends my speech about the tyranny of retail

B class is either refurb or returned. Check Ike Sound for some good deals. Prices usually include shipping. If you can afford it, you might think about getting a deck that can play MP3 encoded discs. Approximately 10 hours on one disc. A real space saver.

Etronics has a low Reseller Ratings. I also saw a post that says they went out of business a few weeks ago. Ebay is OK if you can trust the seller.

i don't know that they went out of business.. i always go to their site for reference and it works fine. checkout and everything. they could be on their way out, the person may have meant. as of right now they're still around. ebay is amazing and they're continually making it a safer place to trade. they require all sorts of personal verification to create a seller's account, and so much as one report of violating the rules can get your user suspended. however, you also have to be a smart buyer. you have to buy from someone with good feedback, you have to read over it and not simply glance at the number of comments, and if there is anything the item description or image lacks, you have to ask questions of the seller. they will be more than glad to help because you are a potential bidder and can increase the bid amount, resulting in them getting more money. everything works itself out, you want the product, they want the money, both parties gain. sellers on ebay that may have suspicious motives are noticeable. they have 0 or negative feedback and it's completely your choice to buy from them. chances are you should wait for a + feedback seller who will list the same product or better a few days or weeks later. it always happens. just my sense on the matter, i've saved hundreds of dollars in electronics buying from there

Based on Reseller Ratings, and Audio Survey ratings, I wouldn't buy from Etronics. Too many complaints. Check out Ike Sound for some good prices, and they are honest. Crutchfield has the best ratings, but is also the highest priced.

i wouldn't say never buy from them. i know they can mess up with your order, it happened to the user moloko on this board. they said his cc# wasn't processing or something so it just took a few extra days and some time on the phone. nothing that couldn't be resolved. it's not like you give them the money and you never get your product, otherwise they'd be criminal and shut down. go ahead and buy from them in my opinion

Check the Reseller Ratings, and audiosurvey ratings. Then make up your mind. I wouldn't buy from them.

the only problem i've seen with etronics.com is their shipping charges. hopefully that insures that nuthin will happen to the merchandise and also include insurance, but i'm not sure...

the first time i looked, the shipping charges for UPS Ground was $56. now it's $33...still pretty high. i can send a 50pound crankshaft across country for about that...

i do like the cheaper prices though...

hmm...maybe i should refresh my shopping cart.... course, it could be calculated by weight and what is being shipped...

items in my cart:

(2) MTX T8124A 12" Thunder8000 Subwoofer $299.98 ($149.99 each)
(1) Lanzar VIBE250 900 Watt 2 Channel MOSFET Amplifier $164.99

Sub Total: $464.97

"Please note these are estimated charges and apply to U.S.deliveries. Rates and shipping options may change once you have selected a shipping address. These changes, if any will appear during the checkout process."

UPS Ground - $33.00
UPS 3-DAY - $48.00
UPS 2-Day - $69.00
UPS Overnight - $103.00

after reading that again, it might still be $50, or it could be less...i haven't checked out yet due to lackamoolah, which happens to be a rare hawiian disease a lot of people seem to be suffering from...

Check Ike Sound. Their shipping charges are in the price, not separate. Then there is Carmedia1, MMexpress, TheZeb, Broadway Computer, BSless, all of whom have excellent reseller and audio survey ratings, unlike Etronics. Check the ratings before you do business with Etronics. Reseller ratings offers ratings from 0 - 10, with 10 being the best. Last time I looked, Etronics was at 4.9, below average. And at audiosurvey their rating is even worse. Of course, you might get lucky and not have any hassle. Or maybe not. It's your money, and I've just offered some alternatives. Besides E-bay, there is also UBID where you can sometimes find a pretty good deal.

hey 1972, check out these two links..

for your subs:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search...t&BasicSearch=

for your amp:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search...t&BasicSearch=

i think you'll find the prices much more enjoyable

(2) MTX Thunder 8000 12" as low as $230.00 with $35 shipping (much cheaper to buy them separately it looks; fix the lead wire going to the cone on that broken $15.50 one and fix the frayed wires on the $26 one. $41 for both, as they stand, with only a day or a few hours left. i couldn't foresee you spending more than $75 before shipping)

(1) Lanzar Vibe250 amp $115.00 Buy It Now with $20 shipping

a savings of almost $100 already!

i would go through ebay, but the only problem is time...

i don't have the money right now, and it'll take time to get...otherwise, i'd bid!

thanx though.
