Radio for 1972 Roadrunner w/rallye dash
Basically looking for any info on aftermarket, overhaul, replacement of the radio in my Roadrunner. Has that unique, but impossible to find style of both knobs on the left side of the radio.
I still have the stock unit (I bought the car new and am the only owner) but would like to upgrade to at least an FM unit. I could go with a hidden unit in the trunk or under a seat, but only if I can't find a "knobs on the left" unit. Thanks to anyone with help. PS Iv'e searched just about everywhere including eBay. |

I had my stock radio for the runner converted to a modern electronics @ 2yrs ago. The base conversion will gives you 2 channel 44 watts total.
I had mine upgraded to use a remote 6cd changer and "line in" and "line out" jacks so I could hook up a EQ and power amp. The total package was @ $700 (including the CD changer and custom line out amp and jacks). Worth every penny for having modern tunes that look stock. Besides whose gonna steal a radio that doesn't fit anything else. I didn't bookmark the site that makes the converion SMD board. I used one of their authorized conversion outlets. I will see if I can find it. ADDED: Ahh HA I found it- and BOOKMARKED it. www.antiqueautomobileradio.com I am very happy with the quality and workmanship of the system. I would recomend this to ANYONE not wanting to cut the original dash. The tunes are clear ( after I got a few ground loop bugs squashed- not the radio's fault),and with 350watts 4 speakers and a sub.Well the rice engines aren't the only thing I get to show up now a days. |

Thanks for the info...that's what I was looking for. Somehow I had visited that site but missed the obvious! In the words of that pillar of intellect, Homer Simpson, "DOH!"
I don't think I'll go quite as far as you since all I want is the plain vanilla AM/FM radio. My "sound blaster" is the one I take to races with my RVee. 1200 watt AB amp, Studiomaster mixer, four Crate, four KMD speakers, and 8000 or so songs! Picture attached! (well I thought I did!) hmmm.... |

No problem, I just like to have decent tunes. The whopping 2watt stock unit just wasn't gonna do. Your RV unit sounds like my home system. But I can't fit that in the trunk either

when i got my car, the jackass that owned it before me had already hacked out a hole for an aftermarket cassette player... ...and he did a shitty job too. i figured, since theres a hole...might as well put something decent in there...
heres mine: Pioneer DEH-1100 (stolen!!) Clarion DXZ635MP (current...) 2 "auto works" 5 1/4" tweeters in kick panel (cheap) 2 Pioneer 6x9's in back 2 Pyramid woofers in bandpass with 1,000 watt amplifier (also pyramid) ...bigger system AND motor than them stoopid ricers (round here anyhow)...old-n-big cars rule!! |
