Unhappy 02/1500 radio

I just installed a new out of the package factory radio with cd and cassett. Now the problem, any time the key is on the light behind the time inicator is bright, even with the dash lights on, the rest if the radio will dim with the dash lights, but this part stays bright. Is this normal?????

Is your odometer display the same way? If it is then the little dimmer switch used for your cluster display is rolled to far up. It should be rolled up just not clicked. There is 2 clicks one for the display of your odometer to be bright and just the time on the radio and the next click up is your interior light, try rolling it down all the way and see what happens

Default radio light

Every thing was working fine with the old radio ,but it did not have a C D player so I switched th this one. It,s just the time that will not dim all the rest of it works like it is supposed to. I,m beginning to think there is something wrong with the light wire connection in the radio.

Is the new radio the same year as the old one?

Yes ,if it wasnt it would not fit the dash, I,m wondering if the wireing configuration on the plug is the same for all mopar radios of the same year/shape. or is there a different wire for that light to make it bright all the time.

If your ram is an 02 1500 it should be the new body, and have the new style radios. Those radios only have only one plug on the back and only one dimmer wire located 3rd pin in next to the accessory wire. this wire should change voltage when you dim your dash lights. If you have the old style truck and radio you should have 2 plugs on the back. those radios sometimes have 2 dimmer wires. one that activates with park lights, and one that changes voltage with your dash light dimmer. These are the 3rd and 4th wires (again next to the accessory wire) on the grey plug. If you are missing any of these wires, your dimmer curcuit on the radio will not function properly.
