Four tracks times two channels equals eight tracks, at least that's how they were marketed. Convince me otherwise.

Oh, well hell, you're right. I guess the mind finally "went." My deck used to eat so many tapes I don't think I ever got more than "one" track out of 'em anyhow.

Last car we had with one it was an 80 Cordoba... kid ate up the last of my 70's music in it. Still have one in one tractor, but I never use it for the reasons above. Also get used to carrying a pack of paper matches to shove in beside the tape to keep it from distorting.

Biggrin

I used to get a kick out of seeing uncoiled 8 track tapes in rest area waste cans. Of course, I had cassette players that would chew tapes, too. CD players are so much better.

Craig model 3123 8 track tape deck with stereo radio early 70's there are a few for sale one in mint cond for 100 bucks. Back in the day Craig units were one of the best you could get [pre pioneer] the 8 tracks [left a lot to be desired] were not the greatest but they were state of the art in audio recordings till the introduction of cassette tapes which all but killed the 8 track [just like cd's and dvd's did to vhs/beta and cassettes].
