'95 Neon Speaker Trouble

The rear deck speakers don't want to work. The stereo is fine, the wiring harness is fine (tested the whole thing in my Intrepid ES). For some reason however the rear speakers do not work whatsoever. I checked the connections to the rear deck speakers via the trunk and they were ok, does anybody have any suggestions? Perhaps know where the wires are routed?

Did you try the rear/front fade when you had it in the intrepid to see if it worked ok?
Has the neon ever been wrecked, or have you done any wiring changes (added aftermarket speakers, amps, fog lights)?

I tested the fader, worked fine. Thats the one thing I love about Chryslers, all have pretty much the same wiring harness, so that thats the first thing I checked. When I fade it all the way back to the rear channel in the Neon, I get nothing...but in the Intrepid it worked AOK. She (the owner) said that occasionally if she hits a bump the rear speakers will pop on for a second, but then nothing again. I don't believe the car has been wrecked before, and the rear speakers are stock.

The only major change is the aftermarket Sony cd-player in the dash, and the wiring for that is fine. I'm guessing there is a break in the wiring somewhere, I just do not know where to start looking.

If you have a problem with the factory wires it would be easier to just run 2 new wires to the rear speakers.

That's very true, but before I go through that extra effort I wanted to make sure that it was in fact the wires and not something else...I figured if someone knew where the wires were routed I could trace them and see where the problem was and maybe splice them. Car doesn't have a big stereo system, just want the deck speakers to work...

The speaker wire run down one side or the other with about another 40 wires.That's why it's easier to just run new ones.

Have you tried hooking up an ohmmeter to the wires? If the wires are good, you should get almost zero ohms (no resistance). If they are bad or pinched, you will see a lot of resistance, possibly infinity (break in the wire).

If your meter reads an open that does not necessarily mean bad wires. It could mean different wires are going to those speakers. (just a thought)

Have you tried pulling one of the speakers from the rear deck and hooking it up to the front? The speakers might be bad.

Are chopped liver and diced liver about the same?

Did you put the radio in yourself if you did maybe the wires are hooked up wrong or you got the wrong wiring adapter and if you got it done somewhere ....well.....bring it back good luck

That was the first thing I checked out. I removed the head unit, wiring harness and all, and installed it into my '95 Intrepid, worked AOK.

I gotta wait a bit before I can do anything with the Neon, as it kissed a tree sideways 2 weeks ago and is getting patched up.
