An Update..not enough posts yet to post pics..But I raced the Sportsman Nationals at the Springfield Mile aug. 19th. I finished 18th out of 30 cars. I was way off on gear(3.89 vs 4.56 in the winning car) but I knew that going in. My biggest problem of the day was 1st lap of the feature the Bert trans started popping out of gear...Had to drive 1 handed and hold it in gear..That and I didn't have a shock on the top link of the rear so I had to deal with it getting squirrely letting off going into the corners at 100+mph...
The engine ran great. It ran 195-200 and performed excellent. It was my 1st Stock car race in almost 25 years...I had several buddies there to help me out. I plan to go back next year with the experience gained this year and hope to make some noise!
I finished the race and that was my main goal I wanted to accomplish! The car handled excellent in the corners(other than entry) and brought it home in 1 piece!

That is cool. Is it asphalt or dirt? We had a guy running a 401 stroked out to about 440 c.i. if memory serves me right. He had some success at the local dirt track running as a superstock..

Dirt..The Illinois Vintage Racers run both but I'm just doing the dirt this year....I'd like to try the asphalt..maybe next year...
This engine is a 3.7 stroke 401 which is about 409 c.i....Iron heads...I don't have enough posts or I would post pics...
