Default I think I found the right deal on a motor for my 2016 season.

I sold a few parts to a Mopar drag race guy a few weeks ago. he mentioned a guy who had an older circle track engine for sale on CL and, later, Racing Junk. I found the ad and gave him a ring… went to take a peek at the engine last week.

The seller used it in his DLM until the local track was paved (Marshfield, WI) then he loaned it to another guy to run it in his mod.

Here's the good stuff…

70's 360 block
396 CI
Mopar 3.79 stroke crank with 8 bolt flange
Ross 13.5 pistons
Crower rods
Crower valve train… springs, Ti retainers, locks, pushrods
Crower solid flat tappet cam
Mopar cast adjustable rockers and a set of Isky rockers new in box
Stainless or Ti valves (not sure really)
W-2 open chamber heads with light porting
Head and main studs
Mopar M-1 intake
Barry Grant alky 750 carb
MSD dizzy and 6T box
Looks like a Canton or Moroso oil pan with power pouch
Comes with two aluminum flywheels (6 and 8 bolt) and a Ram clutch with Howe hyd throwout bearing

Also comes with 32 gal cell, nice set of pedals and masters, nice recall tach and more stuff.

Now the bad stuff…

The engine ate a cam and was sent back to the builder to have it fixed. They didn't disassemble and clean the block so two nights later debris from the bad cam got lodged in a crank journal and spun two rod bearings. Two rods made holes in the oil pan. It needs two new rods ($450/each) and the crank needs a grind.

The engine was built by Baxter in Eau Claire, WI. This guy builds a lot of WISSOTA engines for all classes and has a pretty good reputation. It's been sitting in the sellers shop, oiled up and ready for a new owner, for about 20 years.

The price is $3,000.00 for the whole deal. I figure it has $9-12K worth of parts if bought new today. Gotta be a $15K engine. Dynoed at 575 HP and 540 FT lbs. Better than anything I have right now.

I'm guessing I'd have $1500.00 in parts and repairs to get it back running.

Thoughts?
