Purchased 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab V-8 from dealer with 6000 miles (led to believe it was a demo)later found it to be used. Check engine light on two days after purchase. Has had 3 oxygen sensors replaced. Catalytic converter replaced. Fuel filler cap replaced. Light back on. Dealer has had truck for two weeks. Now says it may be problem with wiring harness. Also during first oil change - heavy white sludge in oil filler cap found - dealer says it's condensation. Anybody else with similar problems??

well, how does the truck run? if it seems to be running properly and isn't using an abnormal amount of gas, i would guess that there may well be some type of wiring/electrical problem. as for the white sludge, get used to it. the 4.7 v-8 has this problem in cold weather. it is from a design flaw, the pcv valve is located on the oil filler tube and causes condensation to form in the tube and cap. it shouldn't be a problem however.

Why does the vehicle throw a MIL Lamp? Has the dealer identified this? If the gas cap has been replaced, make sure it is the right one for the vehicle. I believe (for 2000) it should have the 1/4 turn cap known as the "quick on" cap. If it has been replaced with the traditional "three turn" cap, it won't seat correctly: the the o-ring in the cap won't seal to the fill pipe and cause a leak code in the leak detection system. This will then throw a MIL lamp. If the DRB shows an EVAP leak, check the gas cap first.

Since my post I've found out that I was sold a truck that had been repurchased by the manufacturer (not told to me) because of problems (02 sensor). I learned this from their corporate office. Here's what's been replaced (some prior to my purchase) PCM, rerouted 02 sensor wires, EGR Valve, Oxygen sensor replaced 6 or 7 times, catalytic converter, purge valve sylinoid, vapor canister, vacuum harness - rerouted/inspected for leaks. Now I'm being told that the only part that hasn't been replaced was the wiring harness. They are working on that one now. Going on three weeks in the shop. I don't want a truck that has had this many problems with only 6000 miles when I bought it. (10,000 on it now). Know a good consumer web sight that I can get some help from?
