I have to replace the clutch in my 95 Dakota, 2.5 liter/5speed. The Haynes manual is a little vague on how to remove the shifter handle before the transmission is removed. I replaced a clutch in my 91 Dakota but it used a different transmission. Another question I had was which type gear lube/oil should I use? The tag on the fill plug is no longer there. Thanks for any help you give.

If the shift handle doesn't thread on it probably presses on, the factory manual shows a special tool to remove the press-on...not sure if it can be removed without the tool.
The AX-15 transmission in your Dakota uses 75w-90 gear oil. I would use a synthetic like Red Line 75w-90NS. |

Thanks for the reply John. The Haynes manual shows a special tool but I am not sure if it is required for this tranny. Were there any other 5 speeds transmissions besides the AX-15 offered in this year?
