transmission OD shifting problem
2003 Dakota 4x4 quad cab 169K miles has started having a stutter when downshifting from OD. It is like running over a small rumble strip. Is this a major problem or an adjustment of some kind?

Old post... usually an additive like Lucas will fix that.

My Dakota had a shifting in and out of overdrive problem.
Four dealers and two nationwide transmission shops told me I needed a new transmission but, before committing I had an Amsoil Oil Analyzers analysis done. They said that there was no appreciable wear and nothing mechanically wrong, so I waited until eventually discovering the problem was a faulty throttle position sending unit. That transmission worked fine when I sold the truck after 623,000 miles. Moral: diagnose the problem and don't throw parts at it. |
