Default 1996 Dodge Dakota adding freon??

A friend of mine was want to know some info about their truck. Its a 1996 Dodge Dakota V6 and they need to recharge the ac. What they are need to know is which is the low side and which is the high side connector in order to add freon? Plus which brand would be colder. Thanks

Stand by for a rant.

First off, "Freon" is R-12 refrigerant which was used in earlier systems, the '96 has R-134A refrigerant. The brand name is irrelevant, it's all the same if the can is labeled R-134A.

There is only one way to correctly charge an A/C system and that is to completely evacuate the system and recharge it by weight. Topping off the system with one of those can-with-a-hose setups is iffy, you really need to have a manifold set with gauges to monitor the system pressure.

If you insist on using the can/hose setup to add a can or two, the fitting on the charge hose only fits the low side fitting which is used to add refrigerant.

To correctly and legally fill and A/C system. The first step would be to find and repair the leak, then fill by weight.

If it's low, it leaked out.

Sometimes to find a leak, I have to add refrigerant and dye. Find the leak. Then recover the refrigerant, because in Wisconsin (and I'm sure any other state) NO ONE can add refrigerant to a system with a leak.
