Default What is with the 3.9 and 5.2 oil pumps?

The 3.9 in our 91 Dak has started to just lose oil pressure. Oil is fresh and so is the Wix filter. But changed them just for sure. Truck did it again. Engine has 86,000 miles. We pulled the Kegger manifold to seal the bottom and the engine was not sludged up.

Driving with a load of yard waste and engine temps were on the high side of OK and then Oil light comes on and engine starts to slowdown so stepped in on clutch and shut engine off.

This is the exact same for sons 96 Jeep Grand with the 5.2.

Mopar got a crap load of oil pumps? Its like the pressure piston is stuck open.

My sons 5.2 has 250,000 miles on it and does not have any sludge. It had done this maybe 10 times over the years when very warm.

We pulled the engine and all the rod bearings are showing copper in the tops. Crank may clean up at 0.020 but just going to buy a stroker 390 kit. Deep pan and an oil cooler will go in with a Melling HV pump.
