Question Leaning out 97 dakota??

I have a 97 dakota 318 w/ a few mods(headers, K&N, 180 thermostat, 50 series flowmaster, gutted cat, MSD-6AL, and throttle body spacer). From what I read a gutted cat should make my truck run lean, however I think it is running rich due to the strong smell of gas coming out of the exaust. I have not gotten a check engine light. My injectors get extremely clogged after about 3-4 tanks of gas. I need some suggestions to remedy this w/out spending hundreds of dollars. Any help would be great.

The strong smell of gas is more than likely due to the no cat issue....

Try replacing your upstream o2 sensor first... and since you have no cat, either get a cat box, or since its a 97, just pull the 2nd o2 sensor outta the exhaust, and plug the hole... (leave sensor plugged in, just zippy tie it to the frame) It wont set a MIL... (I have done all these tricks before )

Which is gonna be better for overall performance? Taking the downstream o2 sensor out and plugging the hole or buying a katbox? Will it even matter which I do?

From what I understand, the Kat Box will richen the A/F ratio slightly... I honestly didnt notice any difference... I'd say just pull it outta the exhaust...

I checked on a price for an o2 sensor at autozone and it was $65, is that about right? Should I definitely get a new sensor? Where can I find a plug for the other sensor and about how much are they going to get me for that?

Thats about right... go to the dealer instead tho... they are about the same price, and its a mopar o2 sensor... (just the first o2)

For the plug? I'm not sure... I had true duals / no cats put on when I told them just to not put it in the exhaust...

but, change that upstream o2 sensor (one closest to the motor) first and see how that does...
