Default R/T chips?

My wife decided she wanted a small truck, so I found her a 2001 Dakota R/T 16,000 kms, for the metric impaired, 9500 miles. Now she has no idea of what the R/T means. She thinks its one model down from the SLT we looked at, I told her its "peppy".
She's having a padlock installed on the hood and has threatened my life if she sees me near it with a wrench. She doesn't know anything about chips, and neither do I. Any suggestions on whats out there?

Well... Do not go with a jet chip what ever you do. Get either superchips tuner, Mopar PCM, or have a custom flash done to the PCM.

I agree. I put a Jet chip (paperweight) in my 02 4.7 Dak and could BARELY tell any difference in performance. But it did decrease the fuel mileage by at least 2-3 mpg. Just what I needed. They advertise 20-25 hp but I say it's more like 4-5 hp.

Unfortunately there ain't alot out there yet. No Mopar PCM yet that I know of. I called about a custom flash. WOW $400 plus shipping. AGGGHHHH. Man that's salty!!

From everything I've seen the Superchips tuner is probably the best route since you can customize it to your likes. But it's not cheap either. Like $350 I think..

If you look around you can find a used superchips tuner for around $250 or so.

From everything I've read (and I've read several posts on a couple other Dakota boards) they are but I haven't had any experience myself.

I plan on getting one as soon as the Cuda is done and I have regained conciousness from the money shock it's caused.

hehe. Know that feeling. I got some HO cams coming for mine "shush". Gotta figure out when I can put them in when she's not home. Guess I'm gonna have to send her to Penny's with a gift card. Man, that might cost as much as the cams!!

I know what you mean, I'm building a engine for my 70 Cuda. We once had a few race horses, on a very modest scale, and I've found fast cars are like fast horses. You can make a small fortune with them, you just start with a large one.

these mopar pcm's work at their best when you have the correct thermostat, a set of headers and an enlarged throttle body.

r/t= Road & track and it isnt one step down from the slt. (i know we all know that, but please inform her of it...) im jealous, i want an r/t too.

She's starting to catch on, its pretty funny. I reminded her our first car a 68 Corenet was an R/T. She's in love with it already, by the time she converts litres to cubic inches I'll be safe!

HYPERTECH makes a reprogrammer for the 5.9 now, but the cost is about 350.00. I have a power tuning module made by the same company for my 99 R/T, but I dont think it is being made any more??
