towing with 315's
how detrimental is it on the G-56 especially towing heavy in 6th on an incline?
06 CTD LARAMIE 4X4--that would be about a 73 instead of a 79 gear ratio w/265's--thoughts appreciated |

The engine
Torque determines the gear you should be in. Keep the RPM in the center of the curve. I think heavy loads uphill are risky, from the standpoint of EGT rise. How much boost are you seeing? How much EGT?
Now, if the 315 tire is larger in diameter than the 265, things change. It may not necessarily be larger in diameter. It is wider, but how tall? |

thanks for the reply, pegleg--the 315's are 'bout 35" tall--the 265's are 'bout 31" tall--i towed heavy (25' gooseneck) from cincy to the 'ville (100mi.) and when i pulled in to refuel on return trip i could not get the gear selector into ANY gear--had to cut the eng. off and start it in gear--had no problem after that execpt a lot of concern for the clutch and or getrag trans.-- i cut the speed down also-- had to downshift alot goin up the hills--not used to this heavy towing
