Default fan clutch wires on 07?

on my 07 2500 the wires that are in that metal casing some how got caught by the fan and broke, i'm wondering what the purpose of those wires are, and if its something that needs to be fixed soon, or if it can go for a little while?? i was thinking maybe its something for cold weather that shuts the fan off to warm up the engine like on some of your larger diesel trucks??

I've heard that it's fairly common for the fan to contact those wires and rip them loose.

The purpose of the electric fan clutch is to increase the fan speed when the fan controller commands it. It will function as a normal fan clutch without the electrical input but it won't "kick into high gear" when needed.
