To Diesel or not
I have the oportunity to get a 2003 Diesel Ram at the end of the year, but to do this I would need to trade my 97 CC 360 and sell my 1965 New Yorker I've been building up.
I don't pull or haul anything my V8 can't handle, but I would love to bomb a diesel Ram. What do you guys think? |

Do it! Do it! Do it! I just bought my first Deisel Ram 3500 and love it. (2002)
These things are more fun to drive than anything I've had in all my years! The only other ride that gives me this much pleasure is my 65 Belvedere that runs 10.0s in the quarter! |

Oh yeah!
You'll never go back to gas. Absolutely fun to drive. The torque goes on forever, kind of like a locomotive, and the same great sound.
Geez, my '65 Belvedere only went 12.98 at 92, but it was internally stock and only had a Sig Erson hydraulic cam and a factory iron four barrel manifold with a holley 650, and stock 727 with 4.11's. Bracket racing heaven! Ron |

Your choice, your equipment,,All I'll add to this is a little quip,,If you have never rode in a B.O.M.B.ed Ram Cummins, then you need to look to get to one of the many California meets they have(Western TDR gang is always doing something)and go for a ride in one,,Its a ride that will change your outlook on diesels forever,,Go to the TDR website and look over the May Madness numbers for HP/Torque and e.t.'s,,Its amazing what they made out there for power numbers,,We have a few guys in our chapter that are making some serious swat with their CTD's,,One last one I helped work on recently(2 stage nitrous installation)and we dyno rolled in the evening made 511 Hp/958 torque on #2 diesel alone,,Then we gassed her and after a little tuning it made a astonishing 758 RWHP and clicked the dyno jet at 1200 torque(dyno jets are limited to 1200 ft lbs of torque),,If you figure up the numbers by hand to get a estimated torque number it was 1490 ft lbs,,This was a 2001 Ram 2500 4x4 Quad Cab,Automatic,24 valver,,Now how would you like to go "ricer flamin" with that...Picture this..Ya pull up to a light, there he is,slung low to the ground, soundin like a rabid chain saw, with his sewer pipe muffler, thump thump stereo blarin, girl friend and him laughin at the old man in the diesel, spool him a little boost to get his attention, whack the loud pedal and your gone and he is,well sittin in a cloud of smoke tryin to tell his lady friend it was just a bad dream.......

One thing to keep in mind...if you get the 2003 model, you'll have the new engine (common rail) and it might be a lil while before the aftermarket guys come up with power ad ons. Just something to think about. Not to mention some other limations on that engine, mainly the turbo.
At May Madness my truck went 512.5 hp on #2 diesel....and thats not even with the "big" injectors. |
