Last time out my 77 Volare Roadrunner with a .030 over 400, 8-1 cast pistons, stock bottom end with ARP bolts, ported 452 heads,
.528 cam, Performer RPM intake, 750 Holley,
1"3/4 headers, 2.5" exhaust,3500 stall,3.91 gear, 3900 pounds with me, on crappy all season tires. On a cold wednesday night in september It ran a 13.30 at 103.5 mph. best 60 of 2.0. Had to use 1/8 throttle out of the hole or it would fry the tires and run
13.6-9's. It took 10 passes to dial in my launch. I didn't bring my sticky tires cause I didn't want to take my back seat out to bring them. I had to go through a R.I.D.E
check by the cops on my way home at 11.30pm.
They were wondering where I was burning out cause my quarters were covered in rubber from 15 burnouts. They thought my car was slow when I handed them a time slip. Its a good thing it was my daily driver and didn't look like a race car!

Will find out tomorrow, I will run the Dart for the first time in the very same condition it's driven in the streets, through four mufflers, dirty air cleaner on, full tire pressures etc. Hope it will go 10's, but we'll see.

Four mufflers are to make the car quieter, normally I drive the car in the races with the Flowmasters only, and it's pretty loud.
But now for the race report, and it's a long one.
First of all the race, it was a 25th year celebration race for official drag racing in finland, the first race here was held 25 years ago in Keimola circuit.
If I remember correctly the quickest ET in the first race was 11.7 driven by a motorcycle. Somekind of a Formula run about 12 second and quickest street car was a rare 6.9 litre Waxenberger Mercedes (a mopar?) with a 14.4. Quickest 'yankee' was a '67 Charger, an original 318 car that had a transplanted Hemi powertrain from an original '67 Belvedere I 4 D sedan that now belongs to my buddy and is now under restoration.
I didn't quite achieve my goal in Alastaro last weekend, the quickest in the race was a Suzuki 1100 GSXR with a 11.02 at 126 mph. There were several classes in the race; quickest rallye car was a turbo 4 wd Mazda with a 13.5 at 100 mph. Quickest "other draft" was a snow mobile with a 13.2 at 100 mph. Quickest fwd was a small Nissan that run 15.8 at litle under 100 mph, and the quickest yankee, well it was me.
The specs from my ET card are as follws: R/T .852, 60ft 3.441, 660ft 13.469 at 62 mph, 1000 ft 16.911 and 1/4 mile 19.610 at 86 mph. Not bad for a 3400 lbs RB Dart, I guess?
Well, I have some excuses; the weather didn't favor the event. It rained almost the whole day and when the track begun to dry they let the 4 WD and slower cars run first. I was the only more powerful rwd car that was allowed to go to the line, and that was just after it started to rain again. I tried the most I could with an off idle to 3000 rpm launch, and had a hard time believing that in the first 60 ft the car moved more sideways than forward. And that is with a 5000 rpm stall speed. I carefully tried to apply more steam traction permitting and this was the result. I have driven this car in the snow, and it has never been as difficult as in this race. After my run the race was canceled.
Well, next weekend is another race in another country, and maybe I'll get better results there.

Ya'll are really bumming me out. I cant seem to get my 68 Barracuda to the track. Seems like everytime I go something ends up stopping me. The last couple of times it has been the rear end. The pinion Locked up due to a year ago I replaced the 8 3/4 housing with a shortened one and told myself to add more oil when I finished the engine. Well this spring when I finished the engine I forgot. Then the axles would not go back in the housing. Now I can't get the axles back out. I had tried to pound the axles in with a sledge and now i cant get them back out to see whats wrong. This car should be in the low 12's to high 11's now and I want to see it get there so are alot of other people who have helped me work on it. I am the first down here to try working on the porting of the big block heads like I have done. We want to see how big an increase it makes in the power.

The car by the way is as follows
68 Barracuda
68 383 bored .030
Trw 11:1 popups
MP 509/292 Hydraulic cam
Ported 452 heads with new 2.08/1.81 valves
New valve springs MP 0933
Balanced Crank and rods
Wiend 7741 Single Plane intake
750 Holley Vac Sec
(friends 830 dp runs way better on this car will borrow it to test it out)
True roller Timing chain
Stock valve train
HV Oil Pump
Standard pickup and stock pan

A-body 8 3/4 3.91 gear sure grip
(temporarily a 4.56 spool till 3.91 get rebuilt)
727 trans with shift kit
Manual steering
Front disc brakes from 72 roadrunner
Full interior and body except for rusted off pieces
front buckets fron a 71 barracuda

On pump gas, through the mufflers, '73 340 Duster (3305 lbs) has run a best of 11.54 in good air, but that was with slicks. With Hoosier QT Pros now I have yet to make a good pass. (11.72 at the Chrysler Classic in May when a valve decided to kiss the piston.) Hope to get it back together soon!

PRO, deeper gears are only going to make the traction worse! The BFG Drag Radials were a joke to me when I tried them. You might want to give the Hoosiers a try. Mid-11s are definitely possible with your combo if you can ever hook it.

Okay, I made a new trial and everything went as unexpected this time too. I had to use the electric waterpump, since I had troubles with the fanbelt at over 7000 rpm. So I had a belt running only the alternator and the Moroso motor took care of the water pump and viscous fan. And while I was at it, I also removed the air filter. But the four mufflers and the tail pipes stayed intact. When it was my turn, I tried to make a normal burnout but couldn't spin the tires because the traction was so good! I left the line from idle immediately to full throttle and the car really launched hard with no tire spin and run straight and quick all the way. The result was my and the Darts best time and speed ever; 9.83/137.5 mph! I only made one good pass, the second was more of a show with a really smokey burnout and overheated tires, ET was a high 10 and the tiremarks continued to about 660 ft. After that I switched to normal radials and left the line in the third gear really boiling the rear tires for about 400 ft, stopped and turned around and came back the same way. The crowd, maybe 10-15000 went absolutely wild every time I was at the track and they wouldn't stay behind the safety areas, so the organizers didn't let me drive more than that. Before the race I was interwieved in the national TV news that I accidently saw later in the friday evening. My turn was right after Tiger Woods, and I think that during the weekend there was much more media coverage. I didn't participate in the actual race, but the quickest car in the race was a modified '96 LT 4 Camaro that run 13.6's. Also a new 911 Porsche run under 14 seconds. I must say that I never expected to experience that kind of a weekend, being a 'star' for a couple of days was pretty fun but i wouldn't feel too comfortable to be one all the time.

V10nacuda,corrected is for altitude mainly, you've all seen the weather stations advertised in jegs and summit this allows you to compensate for bad air and altitude,I'm at 4900ft,some days the correction factor can be almost a full second. When I dream at night its always of low altitude racetracks in Colorado!!! If I win the lottery I'll be building a dragstrip in Hawaii as one unpopulated Island actually has an elevation of 1200ft BELOW sea level, think about it possible high 3 sec top fuel 1/4 mi times...I better wake up and go change my gears.....PRO....

A '73 Valiant 4 D, pump gas, 11.5/26/15 M/T ET Streets, four mufflers and 11.17/125.7 mph. Problems with the launch, no tire spin and the 60 ft times in the 1.7's.

9.19/1/8
12.06/1000
14.51@91.4/1/4

Weather was ok but there was a cross wind that my trucks not too fond of. Was a little disappointed as last years best was 14.496@93.4 Ran consistant times at all distances all day, slowest 14.55 so that was good news.
Still havent sorted out all the changes this season & have more to do. Was hoping for 14.0 by seasons end. Now maybe 14.25. Want 14.0 before opening the motor.

Too many changes over the start of the points season screwed me this year.

Well, haven't been on here for a while, but I do have an update. Got a 7.07 1/8 mi. (approx. 11.20 1/4 mi.) a couple weeks ago with the QT Pros, weight 3275#. However this is the end of the DOT tire for me. Going back to slicks next time out.

'73 Barracuda, 440, cast iron exhaust manifolds, 2.5" exhaust, flowmasters, factory tips in back. Today was my first day (see other post).

1st day at the track: 1.792 60 ft, 12.90 sec, 104.7 mph

Maryland International Raceway is 80' elevation; my run was at 54 deg F, 30.12 "Hg.

Still jetting, adjusting timing, launch and shift points. It got faster today with every change!
