Idea Timing on a blower engine

We have a 493 ci with an 8/71 blower and I don't know what timing to use.
At 12 deg. at idle the hedders will glow, so I think we should have a locked timing at 32 deg.

We only put out 10 psi of charge, it's for street/strip so we won't maximise the combo when we will use it 90% of the time on the street.

Thanks.

Joakim

bring the timing down to 29deg total and give it more fuel.

If your timing is retarded the headers will glow. I have my distributor locked so there is no advance. I have mine set at 32 degrees and run 12 lbs. boost on race gas. On the dyno it picked up 38 HP more at 32 degrees than at 30. I would have liked to try 34 degrees but didn't. Dyno operator said 852 HP @ 6500 was already pushing the limit of a stock block-so I quit at that.

Default Timing

OK, the timing is locked at 30 deg. and we gave it more fuel and it is a killer on the street.
But we only charge 3psi but we will put more boost on it later, we will charge 10 psi when it's optimized.

Remember it's just a 493ci Eddy headed littlefield(with stripes)8/71 street engine.

Now we have a problem with the converter locking to late, it's an A1 with 3800 stall and I told the guy(owner of the car) that he should use a lower (2500) stall converter, but after putting in $15.000 in the engine he had no money left.

Thanks for your help.

Joakim

Mr.Sixpack, your set up sounds similar to mine.(Eddy heads) I am running a 3200 stall converter for my application built by Coan of Indiana.

Do you have any problems with that amount of stallspeed, we have problems that when the converter hooks up we go up in smoke.

I know that it's a bit cold now but it's scary.

AJ what do you think the power is in our combo??

I used "Dragstrip Plus" and with 10 psi of boost we got 867 hp in the engine and 700 somthing on the rearwheels

Thanks.

Mr.Sixpack, I don't have any trouble-but I have 33.5 X 15 Goodyears and 4.30 gears, and I come off the line at 2400 RPM's. I just switched to 3.89 gears so I won't over-rev in the quarter. With the 4.30's I would come across the line at 7000-7100 RPM's. (I haven't tried the 3.89's out yet-hopefully this weekend, if the rain stays away)
As far as your power output-I don't know what you have done to the motor, besides the Eddy heads. (Do you have any extra work done to the heads? I had mine ported for blower use and 1.88 exhaust valves installed)
