Default Quick tranny question

Tranny in wife Durango is toasted. 2nd gear all but gone, fluid brown and burnt. It's TOAST. Now for the question: 99 Durango 4x2 360 and 98 Ram 1500 4x2 360-- same tranny?? Direct bolt in swap?? A local guy has a wrecked 98 Ram 1500 4x2 360 that he is parting out. I have seen the receipts where his tranny was rebuilt and converter replaced 8K miles ago. If I'm right in thinking this is a simple in-and-out swap, buying his tranny and converter for $300 beats the hell outa $1800 I don't have to rebuild mine.

in therory it is the same trans. take a close look at the lower bell housing where the torque converter dust sheild goes. some of the Duragos are steped in for clearance isues. if bothn trans bell housing look exactly the same . bolt it in.

Thumbs up durango tranny

most durangos of that year have that same problem with 2nd gear, its actually the pressure solenoid and that other pressure sensor next to it, the speed sensor outside the tranny, or your ecu. my durango had 2nd gear out and turned out to be the ecu. so unless your completely sure its the tranny, i would not replace it.

The electronics only tell the trans when to shift, the rest is still strictly hydraulic. The solenoids or sensor won't cause a kickdown band to burn up and that's what's happened.

Its been a day or 2 since Ive been under a Durango with a RE but something is telling me there shouldnt be a difference......regardless the guts are the same, if there is a case issue just find someone to swap the guts or if you have the knowledge doin it your self always saves $.....basically look at it for what it is a 727 with a modified V.B. and a OD strapped to it backside. If you were closer to KS Id be glad to give you a hand I love Trans work.....Gravey!
