Default Hemi Durango

Is this going to be in production, or is DaimlerChrysler just toying with us?

I havent heard anything about them putting the Hemi in the Durango's. They wont even put them in the smaller Rams so I would'nt hold your breath. Chrysler likes to toy with us. How long have they been taunting us with a rear wheel drive car? (excluding the Viper seeing as none of us can afford one)

I am guessing that when the new durango comes out it will have a hemi option. They might even start cramming a hemi into them sooner.

BLKBRD: My dealership has a 1500 hemi. Are you refering to the 1500s as being small?

I think he means the 1500 is not small since you can only get it in the 1500 quad cab, too much weight. Like everyone else, we all want to see the hemi in the Dakota, but more practically the Ram 1500 reg cab, short box.

I think you'll find chickens with lips before you get a 5.7L Hemi in a Dakota/Durango. Now a 4.4L V-6 Hemi....hmmm....little more HP and torque than a 4.7L V-8 and lighter too???

Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

You can buy a 1500 reg cab SWB with the Hemi! As long as it's a 4X4.

Default Hemi Durango

The word I heard is that the Durango, due to the fact that it is growing, will be available with a HEMI. The Dakota, however will have the 4.7 HO (from the Jeep Grand Cherokee Uplander) as it's big motor (not too shabby being that it out powers and is even keel on torque with the 5.9).

As for 1500 HEMIs....My local dealer has 2 1500 HEMI Rams that are SC SB STs....Limited slip 3.55s, auto, tilt, cruise, chrome wheels, cloth seats, carpet and CD player $22,500 before rebates. 1 is burgandy, 1 is black...take off the HEMI badges and they look like V6 models...what sleepers

I highly doubt you will see a 4.4L HEMI 6....Dodge put too much time and $$ into the current 4.7/3.7 engines to scrap them for a another setup. Not too mention that a V6 just can't produce the torque down low like a V8 can..even if it can make the HP.
I think your only going to see HEMIs in 5.7, 6.x, and 7.x (V10) versions. AND Dodge IS making RWD cars again...2004 and 2005 they will be hitting the showrooms..seen the SRT8 Magnum? They are making that wagon (probably sans supercharger) the car has been seen in shakedown trials around the US. Not too mention the Intrepid/LHS/300 replacements.

SuperDart, I would have thought the same about the new 4.7 and 3.5, but I saw a "half-a Hemi" at the Dallas dealer show in a butt-ugly little micro-van with a pick-up bed. My uncle's a GM salesman and took me with him. D/C want's a "HP" engine for the "E" and "C" series MB's in a V-6 (to keep the engine tax in many countries down) and a 4.2-4.4L V-6 Hemi would do the job. Diamlier doesn't build engines in the Union of South Africa anymore where labor was cheap, so now it's Brazil and Mexico. The Brazil plant is set-up for small diesels(we should get about a 4L 4 cylinder in the Dakota next year) and Mexico is building the 4.7's and 3.5's and Mitsubishi/Chrysler in-line 4's. The R&D on the new Hemi was 3-10 times the money of the 4.7(which is just an OHV version of the old AMC 4.7). V-10 and V-12(!!!!) versions of the Hemi are in the works(I got this from a guy who works in the foundry!) BTW, in S. America, they sell the Durango with a MB 4L turbo-diesel.

From the auto show in new york, the dakota won't have the "hemi".Instead they put the VIPER (V10) for the dakota as a option.Peace

DC is already on record as saying the concept pictured in the link below is about 85% of what the production Durango hemi will look like and you should see the final product this Fall.
