Question Consistent High Oil Pressure

Since it's purchase I noticed my 2002 Durango always seems run at the higher hashmark on the oil pressure gauge. This is the smaler V8, not the 318. I had the dealer look at it. At first they changd the oil sending unit, which indicated they felt something was not right. After that had no effect, they said because it is in "operating specifications" they could do no more. I'm thinking of A.) switching to a heavier weight oil, B.) Going to synthetic. or C.) Should I just attibute this to a smaller V8 working harder???

It's new and good and tight. Dont worry with it. Besides any dealer would have pulled the send unit and checked it with a known gauge like we do. Rule of thumb is 10 psi for every 1000 rpm the engine is capable of turning. As long as it is no higher than 80 psi cold 60 psi hot it is not too high and want cause any seal leaks. That's the only thing high pressure could cause anyway.

If you want to just go buy an autometer oil and water gauges and self install and you will be happy with what you see I'm sure.

Dwc43 is right, but as an added extra, whatevery you do, do not put a heavier weight oil in a 4.7, besides the fact that it can cause higher oil pressure, it can void the warranty. This engine should only have 5w-30 oil and NO additives of any kind. Using additives of any kind can also void the warranty, Chrysler is very particular about that.

What do you think about Synthetic Oil, or would that void the warranty as weel?

Syntho aint worth the price. It shows nothing on the dyno and it still needs changing every 3,000 miles and it wont last anylonger using it. Just a waste of money.

Default OIL ???

I’m with DWC, and another thing, you have to get the bad Stuff out of the engine. Synthetic oil is a great lubricant but it still will hold the sludge and acids developed with the new fuels (well not new now). In my professional opinion ,it really doesn’t matter what oil you use, the regular changes is what is importan
