The voltage is going to be a nominal 12 volts of course, but it will be what ever battery voltage is.

Are you sure it's the coil and not the PCM. I had the exact same thing happen to my Sundance. On the way home from work it died. I caught a ride home, grabbed my trailer and some parts went back plugged a different coil in, and it fired right up.

A few months later, I went to leave for work and it stalled at the end of the driveway. (Thank God). I had no check engine light when I turned the key on. Swapped out the PCM and it was good.

The only reason for repeat coil failure is overheating. Are the other ignition parts good? Cap, Rotor, Wires, Plugs (Proper gap?). Don't use cheap wires either. I like the Good Napa wires. The only other thing I can think of would be the PCM or wiring grounding out the coil when it should be off. But that would only happen during a key on engine off situation because it simply wouldn't run. And the Auto Shut Down Relay should be turning the power to the coil off anyways.

all other parts are new and good quality.tested the coils after they fried and found all 3 coils were bad.wasnt sure if the pcm was causing the coil failures or if i was just getting cheap chinese coils but the last one one was an accel super coil.i'll have to check coil voltage this weekend and i'' check the stuff you suggested as well.

checked coil.only getting0.62 volts.all connections seem good.assuming coil power is provided by the pcm.am i correct or is there something else that could be causing it.

The PCM controls the Auto Shut Down Relay. The ASD relay supplies power to the coil, fuel pump, etc.

The PCM also grounds the coil to control the spark.

You will have to check the voltage at the coil connector with the engine cranking.

0.42 v with the engine cranking jumps to 0.62 when running

If it runs then you have to have the nominal 12 volts available at the coil.

Are you measuring voltage drop? (probing the + side of the coil and other end of the meter to the battery +)
