Question Dodge Daytona?

I was thinking about getting a Dodge Daytona and wanted to know what was the best engine fo this car I know it comes with a 2.2L turbo or the 3.0L V6....which ones the best and I will get a standard tranny if I buy one! Any info or ideas would be welcomed!!
Thank you!!!!!!

Go for the 2.2L Turbo. It has lots of potential and is easier to get parts for. If you can get one with a Turbo II, your even better off.

The extra displacement of the 3.0L and the extra cylinders may sound like the better choice, but its really not. The Turbo 4cyls perform just as good if not better in stock trim plus they have a lot more potential. Chrysler pumped these engines out with parts and design that could handle a lot more power than they rolled off the production line with.

After you get one join the SDML, or Shelby-Dodge Mailing List.
They have guys running 12's in the 1/4 all day long using the
2.2 Turbo.

The Daytona came with every possible engine Mopar had (save the 318/360) hehe

You have a huge range of choice. How much power are you looking to make? Do you want to increase the hp yourself or have it ready made?

The Daytona came with the T-1 through T-IV and in a TON of different packages, so your options are huge.

If you want performance, don't get one with the 3.0 V6 in it. My '87 turbo 2.2 Lebaron has more horsepower than my wife's '93 V6 Lebaron convert right from the factory. Hers is smoother, but that's the only benefit that I can see. Also, you might hear about the 604 trannies; they were the only automatic behind the Mitsubishi 3.0 V6 and they are trouble with a capital T. Avoid them at all costs. But, yes, the turbo engines have a hell of a lot more potential and there are lots of hop up parts available. They are also, in my opinion, slightly easier to work on because they aren't quite as cramped in the engine bay. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info everybody, I was planning on going with 2.2L turbo since I have worked on those before and because like Dart65 said the 3.0L is a tight fit...and its Not a Dodge!!! You guys couldn't by chance tell me what years to look for in Daytona could ya?
Thanks again

I would say 89+ cause then you would have a common block too, which is good if you wanna make 250+ hp without worrying about the block

Well, Speedy, I'm not too familiar with the Daytonas, but since they are fairly common and reasonably priced, shop around. If I were going to buy one, I would look for one with T tops. You can easily get the most for your money if you take your time and ask lots of questions, not only of the sellers, but on this and all the other boards that you can find. Let us know what you find.

If it were me,I would go with at least an 89. I had one,Shelby with a T-2/5-spd. This was my first turbo Mopar,I was very surprised to say the least. Hope you find what your looking for.

depending on the amount of money you're looking to speed, the fastest Daytona would be the 92-93 Iroc R/T with a nice 224 hp That's with the 2.2L engine but with the dual overhead cam head instead of the solo cam. Also, I favor the 2.5L TI engine with the extra torque; and with a quick TII garrett swap and an intercooler bolt in from any TII car, you'll have a strong set-up that will suprise many of unsuspecting V-8's
