Question

Hey cuda,

If the MP distributors are less then par in your book, then what brand or type of distributor do you recemmend for a mostly street driven MoPar? Does your rebuild improve the quality of the MP piece or is it simple better to get a distributor from an aftermarket source?

mtrv8n: ....and why not?
Do you have a problem with what we're doing?..is there anyone here that has not been helped by at least one of my over 2000 posts?..is there something wrong with the American free enterprise system?

We do a GOOD job on our distributors and everyone of them is dialed to a specific application, we charge a fair and reasonable price for an outstanding product.

...to the question

Anyone who has disected a Mopar distributor will tell you about the problems and what needs to be done to correct them.

You can buy an MSD or many other high quality aftermarket distributors from us or any mail order house and they work great.
I guess it comes down to ..how much money do you want to spend? It would be nice if everyone would just order a $3-400.00 ignition system from us....we'd make more money and do a whole lot less work....and we'd be just another Smummit......

Check the price's and compare them to what we offer, for your application a simple re-curve and phase of your distributor would probably do the job just fine.

There's all kinds of good shops that can do it for you, we like to believe that with our extensive Mopar experience and by spending a little more time studying your application that we can dial it a little bit closer than a guy who makes his living doing Chevy HEI systems.

Thumbs up

Hey Cuda; I just checked the tracking on the distributor I sent you guys: you should have it in your hands by Monday /Tuesday this week.

Guys for what it's worth ; I don't mind paying the additional cost for the personalized service. Thats why I have agreed to purchase from TooMuch Racing & Machine ,a 650 cfm Mighty Demon II carb and a distributor revamping to work with the carb...

Our web site is:
www.toomuchracing.com

There's not much there right now but we're starting to make changes and additions this week.

We've set our priority's and we're trying to stick to the plan
1. get power and air supply lines in the shop
2. get all inventory into the computor system
3. finishing touches on the build out
4. web site
.
.
.
.
187. get the motor out of my car and get the new rods in it and new heads on it.

Update..
1. 1/2 the shop will have air this afternoon
2. Current inventory is in the system..Hurray! we can now ship parts!
3. The 4'x16' lighted sign face is finished and cut to size, power is on at the sign box and we're waiting for light bulbs before we install the sign faces...today for sure. Windows are lettered, door says "Welcome"...we're almost there...
4. I re-worked the 4 corner carb tuning article I wrote for here and it's now posted in the tech section http://www.toomuchracing.com
5 through 186...nothing......LOL
187. The heads are in the hot tank.....cars still sitting on the trailer.....

We're all suffering from chest pains which is not near as painful as the ragging we're getting from our wives.....and choking down the cold dinners at midnight.

Hey Don,
I've taken note of your advice on either a Crane HI-6 or an MSD 6AL system, but finance dictates I stick with my chrome box at the moment. for the time being at least.
At present I'm thinking of going with the Accel super coil but i've heard some stories of this fat coil overloading the Mopar ECU's and burning them out. Do you have any knowledge of this happening and could it be caused by the wrong ballast being used?
Please give us your thoughts on this, and maybe any fixes for the problem.
Raymond

Hummmm...cruising over my mental data base I can't think of why that would happen...the curcuitry doesn't go through the box the box triggers the coil.....I think it's an excuse to blame the coil for a poor box...after all.... MP makes the best stuff in world .....LOL

I've been running an mp orange box and accel super coil combo for 3 years..no problems at all. The box can be sensitive to heat, though, and if you,ve got a lot under the hood, maybe from headers n such, it'll fry.

The color box you choose is dictated by the rpm range you're looking for power in. I've heard that the higher performance MP chrome and golds don't last as long as the orange. The MSD has a broader range of usefulness, and is also designed to take heat and shock .

Sure the orange box will run the engine..but we can show you on a distributor machine how much it fluctuates and how erratic the timing gets at higher RPM.

A good box will cut your ET's ...guarranteed
