Default Low speed click, '01 Grand Cherokee

I have an '01 GC with a cyclical clicking sound coming from the front end most noticable at low speed. I've had the front end jacked up but can't duplicate the sound that way. It doesn't change if the vehicle is going straight or turning in either direction. It does have a lot of miles on it (350k+) and there is a bit of play in the front diff. I had the diff cover off yesterday and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, except for a lot of slop when changing direction. I was thinking there night be a chipped gear tooth or something, but didn't see anything like that. I couldn't really see the pinion, but I could see the ring gear and the spiders just fine. Anyone else ever run into anything like this?

My Sundance does the same thing. I believe it's a CV axle. I figured I'd wait till it got to the point I could duplicate it before I put any parts in it. It's been 40,000 miles and I still can't duplicate it with the wheels in the air.
