Default ATF change

Hi all,

I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo / automatic trans / V8 and I was looking to do a transmission fluid and filter change. It has 102k miles.

Any tips would be appreciated

Your Jeep probably has the NAG1 transmission with no fluid level dipstick. Checking the fluid level is a rather complex operation that involves measuring the temperature and using a special dipstick. Check out this video:

If you have a dipstick then it's pretty straight forward.

Remove pan, change filter, clean gasket and gasket surfaces, install pan, fill with fluid.

You can measure the amount of fluid you drain to give you an approximate amount of fluid you have to put back in. Always fill until there is fluid on the stick (bottom of the "hot" range or close to it) then test drive until hot and recheck level.

Most manufactures aren't even putting dipstick tubes, let alone dipsticks on transmissions anymore. Which sucks. Makes it a pain in the butt to do a simple fluid level check. I usually waste a lot of fluid servicing those type of transmission. I overfill them get them hot and then pull the plug let it drain to the appropriate level.
