Years ago a friend of mine went to Alaska to take some photos of Grizzly bears. He had a guide taking him around and teaching him about Grizzly behaviors. One day the guide told him a grizzly had apparently picked up their scent from about five hundred yards out and was charging them. My friend immediately sat down, took off his hiking boots and put on a pair of running shoes. The guide told him no matter what kind of shoes he had on, he wasn't going to be able to out run a grizzly. My friend looked up at the guide and said, " I'm not worried about out running the bear, just you."
