Default Project Neon Redux

Hey guys my old Neon was a 2003 2.0 SOHC with the automatic. I originally got it just for puttering around and not much else but was surprised how much potential the car really had. Since I've always wanted to drag race I didn't sweat the automatic and started modifying it. Unfortunately I lost my job halfway through the build and the bank ended up taking the car back. I want to buy the same car again but just read in a book that the automatic isn't good for drag racing unless you install a turbo. WTF?! This flys in the face of what I've heard from my friends who run FWD cars. Since the only tubo kit I could find is well out of my price range ($4,500 for theTurbonetics Stage I) I'm left scratching my head. Anybody drag Neons with an automatic?

I think most would use the automatic as they can spool up the turbo on the line with an auto versus a stick

Default After reading the Turbo Dodge forums...

It seems that most of them choose manuals when they can. Specifically the 568 which has numerous write ups dealing with beefing it up. I wonder if the autos just don't have the torque handling capability. One thing those guys did say is that for all out consistency go with the auto A413 if you can find someone to build it up.

I have yet to post in in the Neon America site but I do have a few things on the A413, such as a shift kit, changing out the diff, changing final drive gears. you can put a lot into those little A413's.

There are many other ways to bring the power to the ground. final drive gears, short shifters, valve bodys, shift kits, axles, stall converters, ect.

I wonder what happened to this project? Are there any new updates about it?
