Exclamation If promises are kept

Well, it seems the Democrats will now assume total control the country, and govern essentially at will. It was truly a history making event. Either party’s victory would have been a first for America. McCain/Palin would have seen the first female VP, and President of the Senate, and Obama/Biden, the first Black President, and historical change in the country’s political ideology. Come January, America will become a Socialist nation if Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and the newly elected democrat Senators and Congressmen do as they have promised.

I was talking with the VP of Marketing of one of the manufacturers who’s products I represent. His comment to me was that the corporation planned to move off shore if Obama became president, and begins to keep his campaign promises as they relate to business and industry. They started doing preliminary investigations about 18 months ago, and have purchased enough property off shore, to build one plant that could replace production of three existing US plants. That would come to an estimated 4600 jobs lost here. Ironically, I’ll bet the majority of those jobs are held by people who voted (at least once) for Obama. As he put it me, “…they were looking for ‘change’, they might have found it”.

With the democrats numbers stacking up as they it seems very likely that the political move to the hard left is eminent. Many people in industry (and all that I've spoken with) believe the pro-democrat atmosphere presently sweeping the country is (not in so many words, but) anti-capitalist, and anti-business. As a result, so many businesses have made, are making, or will be in the process of making plans to move all or part of their manufacturing and assembly plants to off shore locations. Many of the existing facilities will be sold, or changed into distribution centers.

One business man from North Carolina mentioned the number of empty or nearly empty industrial parks around the country. His comment was that many of the industrial properties sold during the last year remain unimproved. Corporations are waiting to see “which way the wind blows” before building new facilities. Or even what kind of facility.
Manufacturing facilities have a different build requirement than distribution facilities.
I’d imagine that still other property owners could just as easily sit on undeveloped or unimproved property rather than build at all. After all, the taxes on unimproved land are far cheaper than improved or developed properties.

No, it's not going to happen over night, and it's not going to happen all at once. There won’t be a mass exit of manufacturing jobs. But, it will happen if the democrats actually do as they promised. In many companies the plans are already drawn up. I suppose it’s now up to government as to whether or not they are put into action. Tax increases, high labor costs, over the top EPA requirements, commercial property taxes, are a few of the reasons that so many corporations are considering the move. One fellow told me that his company is planning a 10 year phase out of North American operations. Hopefully, Obama, Reid, and Pelosi will do nothing to turn those plans into actions.

The one main thread that seems to be running through many of the comments I’ve heard over the last year or so has been that the low cost of operating off shore more than offsets the cost of transportation and tariff that exist, and might be imposed.

How do I know this? Not from the media, that's for sure. Through the many professional organizations of which I'm a member, and in conversations with VP's of Operations, and VP’s of Marketing through some of my business contacts. It has nothing to do with race, as they said in the Godfather, "It's business".

Small businessmen, such as myself, and many of you will be the bearers of the tax burden. As I’ve told you, I fully expected Obama to win this election, and I’ve worked with my accountant, lawyer and broker to situate my companies for Obama’s presidency. I don’t have the option of moving off shore, so we did the next best thing. Some restructuring how my businesses are set up was the main thing, but I’ve already spoken with the employees, too. I made them aware of just how things are going to work, if Obama, Pelosi, and Reid’s plans for small business actually happen. Unfortunately, I couldn’t exclude reducing the size of the businesses.

So, come January, we start again, but this time if promises are kept, it will be down a road based on government dependency, instead of entrepreneurialism. The tribal mentality won out over individualism. Again, if promises made during the campaign are kept, and plans made by business based on campaign promises, are implemented. I’d recommend that many of you younger people do two things: 1. Look for employment with the government. 2. Start personal savings accounts, and don’t depend on your 401K to be there as a tax exempt account.

Let’s "hope" that reason allows “change” for the better, instead of what has been promised.

We'll see.

I have both retail and wholesale of premanufactured products, as well as a small manufacturing facility for building new product and remanufacturing old product. I see the writing onthe wall, but until that comes to pass, I will continue on as now, and pray it doesn't happen. If it doesn lets vote him out next time. :-) PCRMike

I didn't mention it as a racial issue, I mentioned it for it's historical value.

Yep, I voted republican across the board as I didn't want the democrats to get a free ride. Now they control the house, the senate, and the executive offices.

Let's see how fast a partisan run country can go to the wolves.

Thumbs down

Already have plans in place if the mad bama does go through with his promises as have most of my friends with small business's. I sincerely hope those were just campain promises with no substance. Time will tell. Not a racial thing just ideology pure and simple.

This might surprise you, but I did not vote a straight republican ticket. One of the Dems I vote for is Jim Marshal: Democrat/Georgia Congressman. He has always been extremely fair in his voting and has not played party politics as long as he's been in office. Prior to being one of Georgia's Rep's in DC, he was the Mayor of Macon, Ga. I voted for him during his run for Mayor, and he was what every politician should be, Even handed. HE made an excellent Mayor, and he's done well as a Representative. I had no problem voting for him even know of the congressional democratic majority.

And Frank will be there to tell us so.

Poor Frank, he doesn't realize that Obama's election is the best thing to happen to him in years....instead of having only Pelosi and Reid to whine about he now has an entire administration to find fault with. (That is if the skin heads or the KKK don't eliminate BO)

From the guy who made a big production of joining the Libertarian Party. The Republican love affair must be like a magnet to him.

Nice use of a descriptor (sarcasm), as well as an emoticon. No misinterpreting the context of that post.

Funny, I know several hundred black people who voted against Obama. They don't like his politics or his policies or his "religions"(which seem to change day to day). Obama has proven it's not the color of your skin, it's the color of your money. Since he didn't take "Federal campaign funding" we don't know who gave him money, it gives me pause.
