Default for your info

Those jokers in Washington DC aint kiddin around this time.

read this :

Washington lawmakers are drafting a large economic stimulus package to help create jobs and rebuild infrastructure. They want to include a nationwide scrappage program which would give U.S. tax dollars to consumers who turn-in older cars to have them crushed, as a misguided attempt to spur new car sales. The lawmakers need to scrap this idea.

The stimulus package is being drafted right now. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wants to introduce the bill on January 6 and have it approved by Congress by January 20, so that President Obama can sign it into law after he is inaugurated.

I can't be bothered.
My voice won't be heard.
Politics turns me off.
I'm just trying to get along, here, and don't have time.
They wouldn't do that.

Well, America, including many gearheads, voted in a democrat majority in the senate, the house of reps, and the white house. The party is not big on private industry. The automotive hobby is an industry and is served by many other industries. Not the Dems cup of tea.

What were you expecting to happen to any hobby that has, as it's base, an item that isn't "Green".
Remember, these guys are the "environmentalists best friends". Pelosi, herself made the statement that it's their responsibility to save the world.

Wait until the look at outlawing cars over 25 years old, reinstate the offshore drilling ban. Forever close the Alaskan frontier to oil exploration, put higher taxes on Gas, and coal, and just about outlaw nukes.
Pelosi and Reid have looked at Europe's mass-transit (trains) and they admittedly love it.

If during the Dems control of the congress they can bring America's railroads up to par, think how many cars can be displaced. Beside, then the Dems in congress can control the railroads, the power companies, and the car companies.

And don't think they aren't planning on doing just that. Remember Maxine Waters Freudian slip when questioning the heads of the American oil companies "...this Liberal is going to socialize the oil companies".
It's what Pelosi wants, it's what Reid wants, It's what Waters wants, and it remains to be seen if it's what Obama wants. I'm hoping he's as smart as the people who voted for him thinks he is.

...and btw, when Maxine Waters let the cat out of the bag about socializing the oil industry, has anyone ever seen the American press try to cover up something so quickly as they did Waters' comment?

This is exactly the point. We have never seen our economy in this condition before. The government is desperate to raise revenue and they will use whatever means necessary to do it.
Bottom line , the Government aint kiddin around this time. They are desperate, and have to find ways to pay for the $4,000.00 + raise they just gave themselves.

Here's the SEMA Action Network link supertuff referred to. http://www.semasan.com/main/main.asp...ANcom/HomePage Best way to stop this ridiculous legislation is to make as much noise as you can where it counts - your elected representative. I think SEMA might be an effective voice also. Apparently it worked here, when our feds decided that unleaded race gas posed a huge toxic threat to all those racers, and we got it delayed till 2010 by being the "squeaky wheel". We're all pretty good at sounding off in this forum, I would hope we are equally as vociferous when it's time to educate our politicians.
