Since moving all my automotive and wood working tools into tool cabinet/chest combinations I ended up with a few extra toolboxes I wasn't sure what to do with. I soon learned that there are some tools I rarely use in the garage ad they really needed to be in something more portable that tool cabinet.
Since the tool boxes are empty I figured it was a good time to clean them up; I sanded off rust, tapped out dents and fixed locks and hinges. Next, I painted the insides with a light colored paint, currently I'm using an off white left over from another project. It makes it easier to see inside. The outsides are painted Petty Blue and the bottom is painted with spray-on truck bed liner to help it not slide around and to resist scratches and moisture. These specialty toolboxes now house plumbing tools; electrical tools, Dremel grinders with implements, a riveter and rivets, and carpentry tools. |

I have one cheap Harbor Freight rollaway toolbox dedicated to "orphan" tools, some not used in years but always handy.

I scan craigslist for cheap/free steel cabinets and whatnot. Easy peasy!

You can always find used filing cabinets for free on Craigslist. They work well for the large or odd ball tools. I used a two drawer version for a welding cabinet/cart.
