Default I shoulda Had a V8

My first car, a 1972 Dodge Demon /6 had 110 HP net, 185 lb.ft of torque and could go from 0-60 in almost 12 seconds with a quarter mile time north of 18 seconds. All while getting a combined fuel mileage of 15 mpg. I swapped in a 340: 240 HP, 6.9 sec., 15.2 sec., 12 mpg (!)

My Chrysler 200 w/ 3.6L (220 cu.in.) makes 283 HP and 260 lb.ft. of torque, 0-60 in 6.0 sec., 1/4 mile in 14.7 sec., and gets 15.6 mpg in the process. This is a normally aspirated engine that does the quarter only 1 second slower than a stock 1970 Hemi Challenger.

So with respect to passenger cars, has the V-8 become obsolete? I believe it has.

Curiously, a Ford Flex AWD with the Eco-boost 3.5 that makes 355 HP is only a tenth quicker to 60 and in the quarter. Must be all that extra weight.
