Default '83 Challenger??

I ran across an old 2 page ad at work today for a Dodge import (mitsubishi) w/ the name Challenger. It looked to be a 4 door sedan that claimed to get 35 mpg or better.

Just out of couriousity, what can you tell me about these cars?

Imported by Dodge made by mitsubishi a Plymouth was imported too....can't remember the name.
I had one, 4cyl, 4spd... the little engine is actually a mits. race engine, I don't remember seeing any 4 doors though.
The problem with them is there is a timing chain tensioner that tends to break off and allows the chain to "slap" the side of timing cover, this slapping can be covered by idleing up the engine.
I think I got around 25...26...27(?) mpg, but I had/have a lead foot.

I think the Plymouth version was named "Sapporo." Whatever the heck that means.

Yup, used to sell 'em new at Koenig Dodge in Waterloo, Iowa. Made me sick to see "Challenger" nameplate on an import. Was a good quality car with the MCA 'jet' engine. Had 2 counter-rotating balance shafts and a 3rd smaller valve (the 'jet') ing the combustion chamber that was like a secondary intake valve to swirl the air/fuel mix for cleaner burn and better performance. Same design in the Dodge colt fwd 1.4 liter and 1.8 liter, those little rockets could motivate rather well! 440cj
