I re-read this news story again this morning, and STILL find it amazing. It's like Hugo Chavez is a modern-day Robin Hood, taking fuel oil out of the hands of the rich and giving it to the poor!
One things for sure: he certainly knows how to piss off his opponents... |

Why would he want to do this? Dictators don't do things for other people just because they're big-hearted. Give it some thought, and ask yourself, "Why isn't he doing this for Canada?"
Yep. A real hero, indeed. Not that it matters, I suppose, based on the state that's receiving the "humanitarian aid". |

Hugo Chavez is a no good, commy SOB. Some Robin Hood.. He is only doing this to somehow (in his mind) embaress George Bush. This commy has taken property away from people in his country and distributed to himself & his croneys. He is anti-American & pro-Castro Cuba. He doesn't need to sell his oil cheap to Help poorAmericans If he wanted to help poor Americans he would keep enough oil on the market to keep the per barrel price down. He kept the Venizuelan oil off the world market (and away from us in particular) to raise the oil price in the world market.

Nothing wrong with communism... The only mistake the USSR made was having a Lada for a national car, instead of a Hemi Superbird!

"This is a humanitarian gesture," Bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This from a man who has NEVER done anything, for anyone, that hasn't serverd his purpose. Just the fact that the story is on CNN gives me pause. ...and who do we see in the picture? None other that the Joe Kennedy. Like Teddy, he's never met a communist he didn't like. There is a whole lot more to this story than CNN uncovered, or at least reported. |

None other than Joe Kennedy. Like Teddy, he's never met a communist he didn't like. ![]() There is a whole lot more to this story than CNN uncovered, or at least reported. There is definately a lot more to Chaves than this story would lead you to believe, and it isn't good. For example: CARACAS, Venezuela — Hugo Chavez (search), the left-wing leader who is moving toward totalitarian rule at home in Venezuela and backing guerrilla movements in the region, could become a test for the new Bush administration. "I think we have to view, at this point, the government of Venezuela as a negative force in the region," said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during her confirmation hearings last month. Venezuela is the world's fifth-largest oil producer; Chavez basically controls 15 percent of U.S. oil imports. He allegedly is taking billions of dollars in revenue to grease the way to one-man rule of a country with a 50-year history of democracy. His critics say the government's use of its oil wealth threatens the region. Venezuela's oil revenues subsidize food prices for the poor, although a large bottle of cooking oil can cost just pennies. The money generated from the $50-per-barrel cost also is being used to buy weapons such as 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles and 30 attack helicopters from the Russians. There also have been discussions about a possible $4 billion purchase of advanced MiG fighter jets. One U.S. State Department official noted, "We shoot down MiGs." |

WASHINGTON — The State Department accused Venezuela (search) on Wednesday of "packing" its Supreme Court to ensure a pro-government majority and said the move calls into question the country's commitment to judicial independence. The Venezuelan Congress, dominated by supporters of President Hugo Chavez (search), appointed new justices on Monday in carrying out a court expansion from 20 to 32 that won legislative approval last spring. State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the United States shares the concerns expressed by human rights groups and Venezuela's opposition. "We think that separation of powers is an intrinsic part of democracy that is respected throughout Latin America and throughout the international community," he said. Venezuelan Ambassador Bernardo Alvarez said in an interview the expanded court will be "more functional" than it was before. "It was necessary for the judicial process," he said. Alvarez denied allegations that proper procedures were not followed in the appointments of the new justices. Jose Miguel Vivanco, Americas director at the New York-based Human Rights Watch, joined the State Department in criticizing the expansion. "Five years ago, President Chavez's supporters helped to enshrine the principle of judicial independence in a new democratic constitution," Vivanco said. and.... Tuesday, August 17, 2004 CARACAS, Venezuela — Strengthened by his victory in a recall referendum, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez (search) set his sights Tuesday on centralizing power, including exerting control over the courts, local police and the nation's broadcast stations. The leftist government is "going to deepen the social and democratic revolution in Venezuela (search)," vowed Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel, the right-hand man to Chavez, who is praised by supporters for giving the poor majority better services and a voice in politics. The opposition was in a shambles after 58 percent of voters in Sunday's referendum rejected a measure to end Chavez's term in office. Some opposition politicians insisted on demanding a recount, but others suggested they accept the defeat and move on. Chavez said at a news conference late Monday that the victory will give his government a "catalyzing energy" to carry out its initiatives, including "completing the transformation of the judicial branch." Congress, which is controlled by Chavez supporters, recently approved a measure allowing that body to remove and appoint judges to the Supreme Court. One Supreme Court justice has already been ousted for allegedly falsifying his resume, a charge he denied. The government is also seeking to exert control over TV and radio stations, many of which are deeply critical of Chavez and carry one-sided news reports against him. The government plans to submit a bill to Congress that would allow the government to ban programming it sees as slanderous or an incitement to violence and to punish violators. and..... Venezuelan Troops Suppress Government Supporters With Tear Gas Friday, June 13, 2003 CARACAS, Venezuela — Venezuela troops fought pitched street battles Friday with supporters of President Hugo Chavez (search) who tried to disrupt an opposition rally in an impoverished area of Caracas (search) considered a government stronghold. At least 14 people were injured. Troops in armored vehicles arrived at the scene while "Chavistas," as the president's supporters are known, fought back, throwing bottles, rocks and firecrackers at security forces. They also looted a nearby police station after tearing down the walls with sledge hammers and metal rods. Hundreds of national guard troops and police in riot gear launched tear gas grenades to disperse more than 100 rowdy government backers. Columns of black smoke rose from tires burning in the street and mingled with thick clouds of white tear gas. Gunfire from unknown sources wounded one police officer and three civilians, said Caracas fire chief Rodolfo Briceno. At least 10 people were slightly hurt by flying objects, he added. The tear gas forced the evacuation of 25 children from a nearby hospital. Ignoring government warnings that violence could erupt, opposition parties called the rally as part of a series of events in Caracas slums to prove Chavez's traditional support among the poor has evaporated. Interior Minister Lucas Rincon pleaded with march organizers to take the protest to an area where there would be less potential for violence. ...and all these stories are from Associated Press (AP), which is a left leaning outfit! |
