Default Trick Flow Heads for BB Mopars

Has anyone purchased these heads yet, installed them and run them? I'm several months out from installing my set. I was curious of other people's experience with them.

So here's a pic of the head and the passenger side header. The headers are Summit brand ceramic coated. Unfortunately I'm going to have to dimple the #2 and #8 tubes for spark plug clearance. Does anyone have experience dimpling ceramic coated headers? I certainly don't want to damage the coating if possible. I've dimpled standard headers before and I've had to hit them pretty hard even after heating them up.

IMHO the coating would crack. Unless this is a very different kind of ceramic, it is not all flexible.

Well I dimpled the headers this morning so I figured I give an update to anyone who may be interested. I used an acetylene torch for heat, a medium sized ball peen hammer and a sledge hammer plus a couple of guys for man power to help hold the header in place.

Unfortunately the ceramic coating didn't hold up to the heat but I was expecting that from the other peoples experience that I've read about. It didn't peel or crack but just burned away. The two spots I had to dimple were probably close to 2 square inches but they won't be seen once they are installed in the car. I'm going to try some high temp ceramic paint to cover those spots so that it will help minimize rust.

I'm getting closer to getting these heads installed now. I just want to go racing one more time before I do.

The engine is all put back together with the heads in place. I will be taking the car racing on Sunday June 5th at the Sacramento raceways annual Mopar drag race, car show and swap meet. I have yet to see anyone post on any other forum their before and after 1/4 mile times with the Trick Flow heads. Here are the key differences in my before and after:

Before/After
Stock 975 casting iron heads - Trick Flow CNC ported heads
9.3:1 compression - 10.85:1 compression (shaved heads 0.030)
Headman 1 3/4" headers - Summit 1 7/8" ceramic coated headers
2.5" exhaust, no H or X pipe - Pypes 2.5" X pipe with cut outs

The car has run 12.8's @ 106 with an 850 carb and 12.6's @ 108 with a 950 that I borrowed from my dad. I'll be running with my 850 for the time being although I know I'll be under-carbed. I'm hoping to see some high 11's.

Thanks. I've been following that thread since its beginning as well as an even longer one on Moparts. Some impressive dyno numbers posted but no track results.

Well for anyone out there, I've been to the track once with the Trick Flow heads and broke on my second run. First run out, I run a 12.1 @ 112 blistering my Hoosiers out of the gate. Had absolutely no traction and ran a high 1.8 60ft. Second run, again no traction and towards the end of the run I broke a rocker arm. Ended up with a 12.2 @ 110.

Luckily not that much damage was caused. I got it fixed and I also installed a set of super stock springs to hopefully help with traction. I was running my original heavy duty leaf springs prior and they were pretty worn.

I'm going to a test and tune this Saturday so hopefully I'll get some traction, run some better times and most of all not breakdown.

Maybe I'm talking to myself here but does anyone out there want to hear how my trip to the track went?

Oh cool! Someone is interested.

First things first, I didn't break this time. Drove to the track and drove home. (about 50 miles round trip) That right there was a win.

It was a test and tune day so I played around with different tire pressures and launch and shift points. Got 4 runs in. The ET's and MPH got better every run but my 60' times were inconsistent. Although I did run my best 60': 1.76, I was still losing a lot of traction at the start.

My best run was 11.93@114 mph. There's definitely more to be had. Still have so more tuning to do. I'm hoping to go again in a few weeks.

Tell me about your 470 and when you expect to be finished.

Sounds like it's going to be a pretty stout motor. What brand rockers and pushrods will you be using?
