Street Master 318 question
I have recently started to build a 1990 318.I have removed the hydraulic roller cam and installed a Summit 1789 cam, lifters, pushrods, new springs, locks, retainers and seals.I have an old Streetmaster 318 intake for this engine but was wondering if using a 1" open spacer would increase the plenum volume enough to match the cams rpm range of 5200 rpm's? I ask this because all of the info I read about this intake says it is all done by 4000-4500 rpm's.

I've decided to use an Edelbrock performer instead.

Have you considered the Performer RPM versus the Performer? I've run one for about 13 years on my 440. You won't be disappointed. It will out perform the Performer in every aspect. (bottom end torque and top end HP) I would go with the Performer RPM air-gap.

I run a performer RPM air gap on my 340. The only problem I have is that in cooler weather it takes forever to warm up. Once I get the engine warmed up good it runs great. Like was said lots of bottom and top end power. If you live in a warm climate the air gap is the one to have.

I've never experienced really cold starts here in California. That issue never crossed my mind! Good point.

I dont think I need that much intake on my little 318! Besides I already have two intakes with 318 ports now.

I have a new in box comp crs270ah-8 cam.Is this too much cam for my stock 302 casting heads? I have the 901 springs to go with it but I was wondering about valve guide clearance with .480 lift
