Default Do all 67-71 440 375 horse engine blocks have the "HP" tag?

I'm looking at a GTX that doesn't have original 440. And block doesn't have "HP' tag. It's correct 68 year. But I suspect lower output 440 than the 440 magnum that it once had? So do all 440 Mags have "HP" stamp on engine code? I think they might.

Yes, 440 Magnums are stamped HP on the top pad.

at this point 440s of any configuration are 40 years old. or more. even if it is a "true restoration", the engine isnt very likely factory original. the internal parts are what make these engines T, HP or whatever else they may be. it is a pretty safe bet that if the engine has been any form of rebuilt, it wont be factory stock. and it isnt too difficult to get 500 cu in into them without leaving any outward tell-tale signs.

True, the only time the HP stamp is of any significance is for the "original freaks" i.e. folks who insist on originality.

I agree. The "Barrett Jackson" crowd I believe puts too much emphasis. I just need to know so to adjust bid. I'm sure it is not the original 440. Which Im happy not to pay for the "Fully documented numbers matching" money. Besides if it is totally original? It becomes a sin to make any upgrades. And whats the point of having a classic car if you are locked? Stand next to it and rub it with a non abrasive rag?

Did you check to see if the block has the last 5 or so digits of the VIN stamped into a flat on the side of the block near the pan rail?

I did. And as suspected it was different. In fact most of this car is different than what fender tag suggests. The tag says D32 for 727 automatic. This car is a 4 speed with A833. (Has new monster size Centerforce clutch.) The Dana rear looks correct, but of course no way to prove that. The motor is a correct period 440. (1968) The interior is not all green as tag indicates, but a camel tan. (That I think works better than the green on green.)

I bought the car for just over $20k. The owner only knows the last 20 year history and very little was done in that time. Someone in the long past did make changes. But it works. And a strong runner with very little rust, if any. Some little dings here and there. And evidence of an older re-paint. But all in all a good solid Driver/Survivor at 98,000 mi on odometer. (Which at this point means very little.). Below is a 20 sec video of car.
