I am going south in a few weeks to pickup a '68 Coronet R/T that belonged to a old friend. Since it has been sitting (for several years) someone has stolen the VIN tag and the build plate off of it. Don't ask me why, but they are missing. I remember when he bought the car and we looked up the VIN and plate data. It is an original R/T car. Is there any way to get replacements for these two missing peices?

i am sure the feds would be interested in how you can get a new VIN tag.

don't care what the FEDS are interested in
It is a part for a car just like any other.
I'm not interested in passing something off for something it is not but I do hope to register and drive the darn thing one day. A VIN tag would be helpful. I know the car; I hooked my friend up with the seller that bought it from the original owner. Now my friend is dead and I am buying it from his widow. The car holds a lot of sentimental value for me. |

Galen Gavier can make a fender tag as long as its legit and He'll know where and how to tell if its legit, its unfortunate that someone took the vin as its no good w/o a title but in most states you can get a "bond" for a car w/o a title if you meet the requirements,Ive done it once and its easy which makes me think you should do a search at the dmv with the vin # to make sure someone hasnt already done this which would severly complicate restoring/driving project,it only cost a couple $ to do the search which if it turns out that someone has done this it could recover your vin and result in an arrest,Id search the state its in and adjoining states........PRO........

Thought about that PRO
The state of Alabama purges its vehicle registration records ever 5 years or so. The car has not been tagged in over 7 years.
Will have to look at this thing from another angle. Hmmm |

Dr. Righteous - Do the search. If the tags were used on another car, it is probably still registered. If it is, you can get a couple of different agencies involved.
If it does not show up, in the search, the best thing is to contact Galen. He will need the title, to recreate the VIN. He will need the build sheet, to reproduce the fender tag. His reproductions are correct, to include the rivets. His reproductions are also legal. |

OK......
Well, this has given me some direction to go in at least.
I don't know if they have a title to it or not. (you didn't have to have a title if it was so many years old; at least back then you didn't) I will see what I can find out further. I have to go down there next week; I will see what I can find out. I won't bring it home until some weeks after that. (500 mile distance) |
