Default What is the best carb setup?

I have a 63 dart with a 225 slant 6 and a 3 on the tree tranny. I am replacing that witha 340 and 4 on the floor. I am not sure what carb setup to use. Or what brand is best. The car will be driven often but will also be used a the track a couple times a month. I am considering just a 700 cfm 4 barrel or a 6 pack. In order to improve fuel economy My dad told me that you can disconnect 2 of the 2 barrels on the 6 pack. He isn't sure if that's enough fuel to power the 340. Any info, advice or horror stories would be greatly appreciated.

Default carbs

using a 3- 2bbl set up is probably not what you would like to use. yes they are cool looking but hard to keep tuned. i've heard of people disconection carb's to save on fuel economy, but that seems to be just a headache to me. i would think a 1- 4bbl with maybe a heavier spring so the secondaries won't open as fast is the way to go. with out knowing what other mod's to the engine, i'm not sure on the cfm for you. but i think 700 cfm is not out of the question. just a thought

Used a holley 600cfm vac. secondaries, tune the secondaries to open as fast as it can WITHOUT the motor stumbling.....
People tend to over carb. street motors.
I`ve run mid 11`s with the carb above with no trouble.
Have fun.

I'm not versed in a 6pak set up, but a 4bbl can be had in a spreadbore. Weather a Holley, Rochester or the ever easy T-Q by carter. The small primarys can help with fuel mileage and the secondarys can give all the rest.
Holley has a 650 cfm,
Edelbrock has new Rochesters. There around 800-850 cfm.
Carters T-Q's are 800-850 cfm. The draw back is there not made anymore. The 340 came with the 800 cfm T-Q in '72. You'll want the '73 and up units.
Some people curse them, I say there easy to use. Not the bigest power maker though. Bigger than big secondarys with a spring to give tension on the opening rate.( Adjustable opening rate)

I like the Holley 750 vac. sec. #3310 on an Edelbrock LD-340 intake.
