Cool

The 360 in my truck needs a rebuild. I have been offered a 400/A727 from a '77 Cordoba for a reasonable price. Has anybody done this swap before, and what are the gotchas?

Thanks

Youl'll need these parts from a BB auto 2wd truck:motor mts, tranny mount, front springs(not mandatory)exhaust manifolds & the 1st 6" of pipe, radiator and driveshaft,be sure you get one that has the same rearend as yours. You may also need a PS pump or you can have a high pressure line made to use the car pump,by the way be sure to get ALL the pulleys and brackets etc.You may need the shifting linkage(bellcrank and both mounts). You"ll also need to lengthen some wiring and tranny lines although you may be able to coax some added length out of your existing lines.I sure hope you have disc brakes already as the added weight will make drum brakes seem like dumb brakes.Thats all I can think of although there may be more...PRO...

The water pump housings are different I think. I know that the pump's outlet is on the passanger side in the two wheel drive trucks. (I've got a '73 with a original 400 in it.) Oh and the power brake booster may be to big around. One from a big block truck may be smaller.

JV Good catch on the water pump housing inlet. Although Big Block mopar water pump Housings are available in both Drivers and passenger side. If he has the wrong side either the right radiator or a modified one can be used or get the correct pump Housing.

Cool

Thanks for the info.

I already have disk brakes (replaced the one year 72 setup with some from an 80). The water pump exits on the passenger side. It has new HD front springs. Whats wrong with the car exhaust manifolds? Is the transmission the same length, I have the SB A727 now.

Is there noticable gains in the performance? The 400 has a TQ and the Lean Burn system.

You may not ahve a problem with the car manifolds but then you might line everything up and see. On the driveshaft you prolly wont need to worry about it but keep it in your mind. If yours ends up too long then you can always have it cut down.

Yup my '73 has center dump exhaust manifolds. You may just wanna get headers for it. Summit has them HED 79220 they are $161.95. You may get away with a passanger side car manifold but all of the linkages for the tranny are on the driverside and my get in the way.
