Default Throttle Kickdown Linkage w/Edlebrock Performer RPM

I currently have a 440 with a Edlebrock Performer and plan on installing a Performer RPM. I've heard that I need to make some changes from my stockaccelerator & kickdown linkage. Is this correct? Is there a kit I can buy or can anyone give me some tips on either making some new linkage or modifying the existing setup? Do I need a longer accelerator cable? Thanks.

if anything i would go w/ the lokar system...it's a cable instead of the metal linkage... its very easy to install and very easy to adjust. it should come with a bracket for your carb that will hold the new cable, as well as the throttle cable. it works great for me. go to http://www.mezzweb.com/tmezz to check out my 72RR i don't have any pics of the cable system though, but its my car and my 340 rebuild project i just got done w/

Your throttle cable should be fine. When I do changes like this, a assemble the engine and tranny on the floor (install it that way anyway), and check the kickdown linkage. You can easily make changes at this point to make it work. (if you have a welder)

I'm going through the same problems as you. I have modified linkage with the Edelbrock Performer intake, but i also plan on going to the RPM. I haven't heard much about the lokar system, but the system offered by www.bouchillonperformance.com looks real cool. I think that I will definately get a cable system this year.

Thanks for the response, 71Bee. I would have thought that Edelbrock would sell the necessary linkage components, since this is obviously necessary for many of us to use their product..oh well.

Funny, I have a friend named Chuck with a '73 Charger and a 440 with performer RPM... we were just having trouble with the kickdown linkage too! We went with a Lokar unit (~$50 from Summit) it works fine. I also have one on my RR, it's a cut-to-fit deal that can work on pretty much anything.

Goose, thanks. At least now I know where to find a lokar unit w/out having to shop around!

The Bouchillion Performance setup IS the Lokar setup, they just charge more for it than Summit does. I've got the Lokar cable kickdown on my hemi and it works great! Hint; Get the carb mounting bracket that is listed below the cable in the Summit catalog, it is worth the extra money!

The Lokar setup is the Bouchillon setup? But i thought that the Bouchillon did not have to be cut to fit? I thought it would bolt on anything. Is there a site that shows the Lokar setup? Because i'll gladly pay 50 instead of 100 if their the same.

Call Hershberger Motors. 1-800-311-3945. They sell a taller throttle bracket which provides proper alignment with the taller manifold and it accepts the Lokar cable.

You can see the setup in this month's MCG or go to www.ARengineering.com for a description.

No changes are really necessary if you have the linkage with the adjustments on the throttle rod and the connection at the firewall. I changed from a stock 340 manifold to a performer RPM with slight adjustments for the proper kickdown.
