Question Sleeper 383

I have a Bone stock (except for the ECU) '68 road runner. 383 / 4spd / 3.55 I would like to get up to 440/6pk performance but do not want destroy the look of being original. Here are my thoughts, Muscle Motors 431 stroker kit with their Street Killer Heads, MP M1 Dual Plane intake (looks like stock), AVS-4428S Carter from a 68/69 440, extrude hone the exhaust manifolds, and throw in a MP 280/474 cam. The car already has a 2 1/2" exhaust front to back with Walker Dyna Max mufflers.

My thoughts are the once painted this setup should give me close to 100 additional bhp while looking pretty close to box stock.

Any comments, advise, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

sounds like it'll be a cool combo but if you're going with an M1 intake, stroker kit etc.. the carter is going to be a big bottle neck maybe you could run something like an edelbrock 750 and take the edelbrock stickers off to make it look more like a carter as they are basically the same to look at anyways...

If you are talking factory gross hp ratings, I think your 383 is 335hp and 440/6 is 390hp. The setup you are considering should be more than capable of making that hp and then some. that intake and exhaust manifolds are going to hurt you a bit, though.

However, if you are going for the stock look, I guess you have very few options. On that exhaust, I think sanderson makes cast iron headers that look way cool, I think they even make ones for big block mopars. They would probably flow pretty well, look relatively stock, but probably way expensive.

I am running that same cam in my 440. But I suspect that cam will behave differently in your motor.

How much are those heads? You know, you can paint the aluminum edelbrocks, too.

The Street Killer Heads from Muscle Motors are $999 and can seen at http://www.musclemotorsracing.com/muscle/

I thought about the Edelbrocks but would have to grind the name off. I would like to continue to show the car in stock classes, hence the need for the looks stock but ain't trick :-)

It is my understanding that the AVS-4426S I currently have flows 625 cfm ... isn't the AVS-4428S off of a 440 somewhere around 750 cfm?

Don't forget, with the 2.14/1.81 valves, the 383 will have to be over bored by .090 or have valve reliefs cut into the cylinder walls.

what heads are on your 383? for a G, you could easily do all that same stuff to your heads. I am not knocking muscle motor's stuff, but I feel better going to a local machine shop that I trust. Something about talking face to face to the guy who actually does the work.

I have stock "346" heads and had my local guy do them for me. got bronze guides, 3 angle valve job, those same big stainless valves (manley) with new locks and retainers and he even blended the bowls for me too. cost @ 750.00. just food for thought.

k

p.s. I love what you are doing, cars should look good, but they should also RUNnnnnnnnnn too.
