Default Tranny kickdown / line pressure linkage

Is there any way to adjust this to allow for shift of 4000 rpm and higher or do i need a shift kit. The reason I ask is that I cannot seem to be consistant enough to manually shift it at the track to get any consistancy. Plus when I let the tranny shift. It does so at 3400 to 3600 and bogs the engine down so that I cannot even hope for a fast run.

Pics would be nice .

Thanks

Not being a auto guy, I once had a Magnum. You can move the linkage around a bit. I installed the MP shift improver kit. I would suggest a shift kit for you though. In the MP kits directions, theres a screw you can twist to increase line pressure. This moves the shift point up.
I believe it was counter clock wise to increase pressure.
Kits are easy to do. Take your time.

I'm sure that many will chime in here, but this is what we did on the Fish tranny...

Raybestos clutch's, and bands.
Transgo -2 shift kit
Wired the pressure lever wide open.
The Transgo kit comes with the reccommended line pressure specs.

This year we will remove the Governor.
Install a -3 full manual kit.
Tweak the convertor from 4000 to 4300.

...Shhh don't tell Mrs. Cuda but we've already started on the new heads, a cam is on order from Racer Brown, new carb and bigger fuel system is on the way from BG. Floating ladder bars are in the design stage and as soon as we get the shop open will be fabbed and installed....do you think she'll notice?

You need a shift kit! One that taylors shift points. The kickdown/line pressure adjustments I dont think will change your shift points just your harshness. The harder it shifts the less slipping it does. The longer it will live. Dont forget a big auxillary cooler for the tranny.

If you go with a shift kit, get the Trans-Go shift kit. It is superior to the B&M shift kit.

If your tranny is shifting at 3300 - 3600, with your foot on the floor, there is something wrong. It should be shifting at 5000 - 5500.

Make sure that the kick down linkage is properly adjusted.

First, put the pedal all of the way down and make sure that the throttle plates are straight up. If they aren't, adjust the throttle linkage until they are.

Then adjust the kickdown linkage, so that it is pushed all of the way back at WOT.

I have a Trans-go shift kit in my Dart and kept the line pressure linkage, a buddy who owns a trans repair shop put it in for me and adjusted the shifts for 5500 RPM at full throttle. Works great and it won't snap your neck at part-throttle shifts. Whatever you do DON'T get a B&M kit, they are junk and just cause your trans to tear it's self apart.

Where is the adjustment for the line pressure on a 727? My car has tall-tall gears and slips into 3rd under WOT at about 70 MPH (no tach yet) I would just like to firm this up a bit until I can get some tear down time and order a transgo kit.
