The only problem I have seen with the lightweight starter is the wire adapter being in the way on BB motors. Do you have the adapter on when trying to install the starter?

The Terminals aren't the problem.
I got the grinder out, You'd think for $114.00 you wouldn't have to modify the starter. MP strikes again! I really wish someone designing things like this would pull there head out of there A$$ |

Mine fit fine. Where is it hitting at that you had to grind it??

Mine too.
The only problem was it wouldn't fit with the terminal adapter on, because it touched the block. It made the starter twist, so the bolt holes wouldn't line up. Remove the adapter, under the plastic cover. If you haven't. it will melt and short the starter lead, directly to the block. |

Had to take quite a bit of meat off the half moon area (belly) to fit properly on a BB. Terminals fit fine.

70 charger, Dude I had the same D@#n problem had to grind the block in the c shaped area. I put out a warning on this about two or three months ago, do a search under Frank R, I think it was titled "mini starter warning" Unfortunately all you can do is grind away. I used a 4" Makita grinder laying flat on my back with the car as high as I could get it, I had to take the header off and moving the wheels from side to side to help me get a better angle. Took me about an hour

The evils of mass production strike again. I don't do anything but race stuff anymore and I do a lot of prep work on the block, all BB. There are lots of places on them that are too thick due to too many casting per mold. Some sand comes off with the casting each time and the dimensions get changed. Usually on inside corners like the area around the crank side of the valley and the cam journals. The later units are worse than the old ones.
